The Reserves and Youth Team
I thought a wee thread on the reserves would be good.
I always look out for the results on the LFC.tv web site.
Here's a quick summary of this weeks game against man u.
A nice victory with an ex man u player scoring, for us!
----------------------------------------------------------
Neil Mellor made his comeback from a knee injury after nearly a year on the sidelines in Liverpool Reserves 2-0 win over Manchester United and you can watch extended highlights online.
Goals from Ramon Calliste and 17-year-old Austrian Besian Idrizaj gave the Reds a deserved 2-0 win over United and it was a really good performance from Paco Herrera and Hughie McAuley's team.
Mellor made his comeback in the second half and played the final 17 minutes of the game and looked sharp and was denied a comeback goal by a superb save from United keeper Luke Steele.

What was that? Liverpool reserves actually beat United 2-0? And there was me thinking Ole Gunnar whateverskar must of scored 10 and that Rossi 8 because thats all Ive heard. Ignore the fact Mellors come back after a year out and that Potter got stretchered off!

First thing I was told on the night was that he'd broken his ankle which then turned into a back injury. All seemed funny seeing as though we then submitted him in the WCC squad unless they had to write that up beforehand like.

Miki Roque and Godwin Antwi are meant to be quality at centre half.

Long may it continue, thats how it should be.
Full of talented youngsters rather than middle aged players that arent good enough for the 1st team!!!!!!!
Will reap dividends in a few seasons no doubt.

MELLOR BACK WITH A GOAL
Steve Hunter 20 December 2005
Neil Mellor was back on the scoresheet in his first 90 minutes for a year as Liverpool cruised into the quarter-finals of the Liverpool Senior Cup after a 3-0 win over Runcorn.
The game was played at Prescot Cables Valerie Park and Mellor was making his first start since the Carling Cup semi-final against Watford at Anfield in January. He has had a personal nightmare 2005 after a double knee operation to cure tendonitis.
Mellor made his comeback as a substitute for the reserves in their 2-0 victory at Manchester United a fortnight ago and he came through 90 minutes here which will do the striker the world of good.
Mellor scored in the 88th minute of the game with a typical deadly finish drilled low into the bottom left corner of the net. The Reds had led 2-0 at half-time thanks to goals from Paul Anderson and Ramon Calliste.
Normally in the past few seasons Liverpool have fielded an Under-18 Academy side in the Liverpool Senior Cup but with the reserves not playing again until January 9th it was decided to play the reserve team with Paco Herrera and Hughie McAuley in charge.
Liverpool opened the scoring in the 26th minute with a superb goal from 17-year-old winger Paul Anderson. Taking Godwin Antwi's pass on the left wing Anderson beat two defenders before slotting the ball into the bottom corner of the net.
Within four minutes it was 2-0 as a defensive mistake from Runcorn saw Ramon Calliste take full advantage and found the net after the goalkeeper had collided with his own full back.
Liverpool: Willis, Barragan, Raven, Antwi, O'Donnell, Hobbs, Anderson, Peltier, Mellor, Mannix, Calliste (Idrizaj 45). Subs: Guthrie, Roberts, Smith, Roque.
|
All our hopefuls scoring goals...
Mellor looks sharp when he's fully fit... Calliste has got a couple of goals now... and the new winger Anderson did what wingers do and actually beat a couple of players before putting it in the net...
sounds sweet...

Was gonna go and see that tonight. Held at Prescot Cables ground, just round the corner from ours. 5-a-side commitments got in the way though. Swines. Good result though.

he was pretty ordinary though, was gifted a goal by some 16 year old lad making his debut, he has amazing pace, but not much else

I was always under the impression Calliste was signed as a stop gap because we had no outstanding reserves striker (Mellor was injured at the time) therefore he was signed more to help the midfield players with their development.
It was more of a case of he's a decent player but they're not banking on him being a future first team player
