Question

Just how good was he, where on earth did you get him from and where is the Ghanian (right?) now?

Tony Yeboah was from Ghana, Leeds signed him from Eintracht Frankfurt for about £3m in 1995.

He was brilliant, scored some wonderful goals. How can you forget his goal away at Wimbledon at the start of the 95-96 season, a volley from 30-35 yards (was second in goal of the season). The following saturday he scored an even better goal against Liverpool (winner of goal of the season), he hit this from a similat distance, but had flicked the ball around a couple of players first.

He left Leeds just after George Graham joined, they never really liked each other, his last match was away at Spurs when he was substituted, he took of his shirt and threw it at Graham.

Last I heard he was playing in Germany hor HSV.

Dunno why I posted this... just had a think about him for some strange reason!

Remember he got a cracker of a goal against us at Upton Park on the opening day of the season. A special player.

He really was a special player, I also remember him scoring a hat-trick away in Monaco in the UEFA cup.

Great player, rumour was he thought he was so good, he could do what he wanted, didn't fit into the strict GG regime.

Ahh yes the Ghanian forward. Powerful guy indeed. Puts Hasselbainks shots to shame...

Started his career at Saarbrucken in 88 scoring 26 times in 65 apps. Then moved to E.Frankfurt in 1990 for nought. Scored 68 times in 123 apps, moved to Leeds for 3m in 1995 for 3.4m. 33 goals in total for Leeds before being shipped to SV Hamburg for 1m in 1997. Ad far as I know, he scored 2 for them...

His best goal/game ratio came in other competitions were he played 18 times for all 4 clubs and scored 10 times in total. 0.55 ratio..

I dont think he's playing anymore, he certainly aint played any games this season...

Just done a search of HSV's website and found this news:-

06.09.02
Tony Yeboah finally retires
Bild Hamburg

What is Tony Yeboah up to these days? The former Hamburg (and Leeds, and Frankfurt) striker moved to Qatar after leaving the HSV and played there until last year. Last week the veteran centre-forward appeared on the German transfer list. However, no club was willing to sign him. Tony will now return to his native Ghana. Hamburg club manager Bernd Wehmeyer revealed that "Yeboah will scour African talent for us."

Thought I'd just correct you there LP. The first was against Liverpool on the Monday night footie second game of the season when the ball got headed in the air and he took it on the volley and smacked it past David James. Following saturday he scored a similar one against Wimbledon were he stumbled through a few challenged before walloping one off the underside of the bar and in.

The ball got headed up into the air by Phil Babb or John Scales and Yeboah struck it on the volley. He didn't flick it up so you can't remember it that well Foley!

The one against Wimbledon was a tad fortunate, not even i believed he controlled the ball with his shin then the inside of his knee, but the shot wasn`t too bad though.

I put him in the same league as Jimmy cos he like Tony had a powerful shot but was a lazy git on getting back.

We loved Tony in Frankfurt. He and Jay-Jay Okocha were a gorgeous couple. Tony was twice the Bundesliga top scorer of the season during his time in Frankfurt. Those were good years for us
