liverpool's net spending over the years.
Gerard Houllier bought 40 players for £125,400,000
Gerard Houllier sold 48 players for £60,675,000
net spending since 1998 to 2004
Net Spend since November 1998 (From Ferri to Cisse) = £64,725,000
Rafael Benitez bought 17 players for £48,180,000
Rafael Benitez sold 17 players for £24,500,000
Net Spend since summer 2004 (From Josemi to Idrizaj) £23,680,000
That works out as 1998-2005 as net spend of £12.63M a season - which is not huge by big clubs standards. And Rafa has spent the equivelent of a Michael Essien and given us one European Cup
arsenal's figures are a lot better with pemier league trophies to show for it but then wenger discovering young talent is untouchable .
also shows I think the reason why noone will be able to compete with chelsea at all for years to come ,a team like arsenla ,man U might win a title one season in the next few years but it won't be sustained success ,money does buy sustained success if nothing else ,it allows you to strengthen .Liverpool couldn't afford to strengthen in key areas despite winning the european cup ,just shows the gulf in football now.

I've wondered what damage Houllier did aswell, nice to have those figures and compare them to Rafas.

When he first bought Reyes, I thought the price he paid was ok, cos Id have paid that, but he seems to have dwindled lately.

I think Reyes has probably been outta position from what ive seen of him. He's had a few injuries been played up front, especially this season and i dont really think thats his position.

Anelka went for more than that, £23 million I believe. I know they paid £500,000 for him...
