Lazio saved
Once upon a time there was a Laziale moderatorwho post this **** (At least KD_7 stayed). Now I'm forced to do it myself.
Anyway good news for everybody who sympathaze with Roma's smallest "professional" football club.

Official: Lazio escape bankruptcy
Tuesday 29 March, 2005
Lazio are officially safe from the threat of bankruptcy after President Claudio Lotito struck a landmark deal with the Inland Revenue.
“The paperwork has been completed and it’s a weight off our minds,” announced the Biancocelesti chief. “Apart from my determination to get this done, I have to thank the fans as it is their victory.”
The club was teetering on the brink of financial ruin after Lotito inherited massive debts from former owner Sergio Cragnotti, but he has signed a contract with the Inland Revenue pledging to pay £80m in taxes over the next 23 years.
“I was never entirely certain it would work out, but I had no doubts about the correctness of my decision. So many people rose up against it, but the law is there and was only applied to our situation.”
The decision infuriated certain areas of the Italian Press, most notably anti-Rome newspaper La Padania, who urged people to “take Lazio’s example and refuse to pay their taxes.”
“Those who complained about this solution are simply misinformed,” insisted Lotito. “Lazio have not received any favours or discounts. The 2002 law is applicable to companies with small shareholders, just like Lazio.”
This frees the club to look at a more stable financial future and the President announced plans to turn the Stadio Olimpico into a business park with hospitality centre.

The Consultative Commission has ratified the deal struck between the club and the tax agency last week and the agreement was deposited at the Tivoli bankruptcy court to save the club.
Lotito reveals: "I was never certain of a positive outcome. But I was sure this was the correct path. And my hope rested precisely on the law which was the origin of the whole operation. It's not enough to be right, you have to find people who will grant you that right as well. I noticed how many rose against us..."
And to those the President had a few words: "They are misinformed. Lazio didn't receive any favors or bargains. The 2002 law is valid for physical persons, private enterprises and also for capital enterprises like Lazio".
A Lotito victory? "Apart from my tenacity which contributed in reaching this achievement, I need to thank the fans for their affection and determination". And now comes the difficult part, the payment of 140 million euro of debt over 23 years. Lotito is certain: "Of course they will be felt, but already when I took over I did say that we needed to find alternative sources of income. The future is a stadium complex which will enable Lazio to secure financial and economic needs. Also for what concerns televison rights, we are in a position where we can negotiate with more serenity. Our contractual power is much stronger".

Papa speaks about Lazio avoiding bankruptcy...

Now everything looks more brighter, we are happy for that".
The club's problems have not influenced Lazio's performances and all the players have always given their utmost: "The salaries have always been paid and none of the players have expected any problems in the future. We have never felt insecure or fear because of the possibility the club would go bankrupt. The negative results have only been the consequence of our own mistakes and have not been due to what has being going on off the pitch".
Lazio must now make its mark on the championship: "We have Livorno on Saturday which we have been preparing for over a week. The physical condition is good, these last days of rest should not have left any traces".

We have been preoccupied but at the same time we've always had a lot of trust in the efforts of the President and in the relentless affection of so many biancoceleste supporters, who made their voices heard, actually they nearly all did".
"So it is mostly the fans and the President we now have to thank for that our Lazio is still alive".

That's utter crap and you know it. It are deals such as the Lopez and Mendieta signing which ruined you, not the releases of players such as Favalli and Mihajlovic. Even Stankovic departure was bound to happen after so many wage problems. At least he didn't called himself sick like that former giallorosso Emerson.
And no I'm not in the closet. My PC doesn't fit in it.
