Smile Debut win for Sydney FC

SBS
A-League side Sydney FC has crushed NSW Premier League outfit Manly United 6-1 in its first ever match at Cromer Park on Friday night.

The trial game was decided within the first half an hour as Sydney FC took a commanding 4-0 lead.

Winger Robbie Middleby fired home the opening goal with his left foot in just the sixth minute of play before striker Saso Petrovski doubled the lead seven minutes later when he headed home a David Carney corner at the far post.

On 25 minutes Carney went one better as his corner eluded everybody on its way into the net to increase the advantage.

Matthew Bingley joined the party with a cracking right-foot volley after some fine lead up play by Middleby and Petrovski teed him up.

Manly reduced the deficit before the interval. Bradley Groves' shot was too hot to handle for Young Socceroos goalkeeper Justin Pasfield.

Bingley got his second of the night in the 68th minute while former Northern Ireland U-23 captain Terry McFlynn completed the rout on 83 minutes.

After the game, Sydney FC coach Pierre Littbarski was more than pleased with Sydney FC’s first hit out, particularly the way the team worked together.

"I thought today was very good for us," Sydney FC coach Pierre Littbarski said. "We played some good football and did a lot of things well."

"We are still not in great physical shape but we kept the ball very well and we scored some good goals. We scored six goals in our first match and if someone had told me that before the match I would have been happy."

"It was our first match but we played well and it is a good start. We still have a lot of work to do."

Aye! That is a good point Did. It's never the goalies fault, its the defences. Well unless you pull a Roy Carrol!
