Lippi to use Roma trident

Marcello Lippi is thinking about transferring Roma’s trident attack to the Italian national side.

The tactician has been impressed by the trio of Vincenzo Montella, Antonio Cassano and Francesco Totti, forcing him to think about his own Azzurri options.

"The Giallorossi system can be used by us with the same three players or others," said the former Juventus boss.

"I won’t exclude a team with three strikers, so long as those in attack are ready to work hard for the team and not just wait for the ball to arrive."

Lippi is still in the early stages of developing a side for the 2006 World Cup, but he insists he already has a good base on which to build from.

"I have players like Fabio Cannavaro, Alessandro Nesta, Gigi Buffon, Gianluca Zambrotta, Gennaro Gattuso, Alex Del Piero, Christian Vieri...

"There is something there to progress from. Unfortunately we didn’t win both of our last two qualifiers but I’m happy with the squad available."

Italy are currently top of Group 5 despite a shock 1-0 defeat to Slovenia back in early October.

They are next in action on February 9 when they face Russia in a friendly, before resuming qualification against Scotland a month later.

AHHHHHHHH!!! NO, NO, NO, NO, NO!!!!! Del Piero should never, ever, ever wear the Azurri again. He is utter sh*te and we have much better options. Good Lord, someone please put a cap in Lippi so we can get a coach who will stop putting this schmuck out there!!!!

I really cant hate on DP to much since people might say that about Vieri even though Vieri has been 100 times the player and has been doing really well lately.

Well I'm not a huge BoBo fan, and frankly I'd rather we found an alternative to him, but he has much more left than DP, and is on much better form than DP of late.

But seriously, Montella, Cassano, Totti, Vierri, Gilardino ... I can keep going, but really there are 5 strikers right there who should always be ahead of DP. There are others I would also prefer, but with 5 clearly better, why does DP ever see the pitch? He is utter crap.

Thats a good idea by Lippi they have been playing well together and have all been scoring goals, they know each others movements which is very important. But the midfielders will need to be working really hard, deffo need to have 2 out of C.Zanetti,Blasi and the idiot from milan in the middle 3 and the other I think should be Pirlo who is WC but can get sloppy at times. The only other problem is RB imo, but Id like to see Zambrotta moved to RB for a game or 2 and try Parisi or Chiellini in the LB spot to see how they cope.
