Rodney Marsh Sacked

MARSH APOLOGISES AFTER SACKING
Rodney Marsh has apologised for offensive comments made on air about the Asia tsunami disaster.

The former Queens Park Rangers and Manchester City striker has had his contract terminated by Sky Sports after making the remarks as a pundit on Monday night's You're on Sky Sports programme.

Sky officials met this morning and decided Marsh's comments were "inexcusable".

The 60-year-old, who was known for his outspoken views on football, insisted he did not intend to offend viewers with his comments.

Marsh told the Press Association: "I apologise unreservedly for any offence I caused by my thoughtless and inappropriate comment I made last night.

"My intention was to make a light-hearted football joke."

A Sky Sports spokesperson said: "We have today ended Rodney Marsh's contract with Sky Sports.

"The decision was made this morning, following a review of his comments on last night's edition of 'You're on Sky Sports'.

"During the live night-time phone-in Rodney made comments that were offensive and inexcusable.

"An apology was made within the programme and Rodney's comments were edited and removed from later transmissions.

"These remarks should never have been made and Sky would like to offer its apologies to those who were offended."

Marsh's future in sport broadcasting is now unclear, and he added: "I entirely respect Sky Sports' position and would add my apology to everyone concerned at Sky.

"I would like to take this opportunity to thank my colleagues and senior executives who have been brilliant to me and always supported me during my time at Sky.

"I am hugely disappointed in myself for letting them down."

Marsh and Alvin Martin were talking about clubs Beckham could join.
Alvinsaid it was either Arse or Chelsea, with Newcastle a possible third and Marsh said that Beckham wouldn't join Newcastle after all that trouble that the Toon Army had caused in Indonesia!!
Alvin jumped in quickly and you only half heard the last couple of words

shame, he was one of the only pundits on SS who weren't afraid to speak their opinion, he wasn't full of BS unlike so many others but he's crossed the line apparently, anyone know what he said?

Not exactly the most offensive thing said on television, seems like this is a touchy subject more than others

I thought the guy was a prat but i think sacking him is a bit harsh, we've seen that joke he told posted here and other places, fair enough it was in bad taste but who honestly has never made a bad joke ? it was accidental rather than intentional, it's not like it was inetional racism or anything.

A slap on the wrist or something would have been sufficiant.

It was a ****e joke. Not remotely funny, but not offensive, either. Sky must have some real jobsworths in their offices to think that should be a sackable offence.

He was a bit of a dick on Soccer Saturday whenever he was on, but still better than some of the clowns they have as pundits.

I think the reason for sacking was a little harsh.....very much a sign of the times as far as PC mania is concerned.

But any excuse to get rid of him is good enough for me, never liked him.

The guy is a twat, especially after the way he described Albion the last time we were in the Prem.

"Wheres ya lipstick, wheres ya lipstick, wheres ya lipstick Rodney Marsh?

Your a one eyed Cockney bastard and your talking out your arse".

They went overboard. Let him make a public apology and let him stay. The reason why they fired him was becaue of the backlash from the sponsors. Keep him, and then consumers will complain and then sponsors worry that their image might be an endorsement of his views and thus tell the station fire him or risk losing our money. That's how it always has been.

It was tasteless but not worth firing.
