Few expected Lazio to start the season with an away victory at fellow UEFA hopefuls Sampdoria, so they will be confident of another good result when they welcome Reggina to the Italian capital.

The Biancocelesti took full advantage of Francesco Antonioli’s red card last Sunday evening, while Paolo Di Canio showed all the sides of his personality – talented and passionate in scoring the winning goal, but temperamental and almost childish in his row with teammate Simone Inzaghi. The veteran is struggling with a calf problem, but should be able to start this match at the Stadio Olimpico. Failing that, Roberto Muzzi or Tommaso Rocchi are ready to step in. Fabio Liverani seems to have recovered from a thigh twinge to start.

Reggina were unlucky not to grab a win over Udinese in their season opener, as Emiliano Bonazzoli rattled the woodwork with a fine volley. Goals were also a problem last year and it seems new Coach Walter Mazzarri has still not figured out a way to solve it.

Ivan Franceschini is suspended following his red card, but goalkeeper Salvatore Soviero is available as his five-month ban expired on September 15. The former Venezia shot-stopper had been sidelined for wildly attacking members of the Messina bench during a Serie B clash last year.

Lazio (probable) : Peruzzi; Oddo, Couto, Siviglia, Zauri; A Filippini, Giannichedda, E Filippini, Cesar; Inzaghi, Di Canio

Reggina (probable) : Soviero; Cannarsa, De Rosa, Zamboni, Mesto; Tedesco, Mozart, Colucci, Balestri; Bonazzoli, Nakamura

The probable line up from Channel 4 is :

-------------------Peruzzi--------------

----Oddo----Siviglia------Couto------Zauri----

----------------------GG-------------------------

--A Fillipini--------E Fillipini--------------Cesar

---------------Di Canio-------------Inzaghi----

I am sure Peruzzi will be the one to play as he is on full rest, the formation is the same as that of Samp game, except for Fillipini in [place of Liverani which I doubt and I truly think that Caso will stick with Liverani and GG...... I dont think Dabo will play although he was good on Thursday.... Seric might be injured, and I think that the line up is ok, but I would love Caso to push in some of the Argentineans in the second half, like Talamonti to replace Couto to see how can he cope.....

I am sure Di Canio will start, this is his first game at Olympico, its impossible for him not to start, and I also think that it will be Inzaghi up front, the prblem is there are no easy games to push in the new buys, we need to fit them one by one whenever possible......

It will be a tough game, Reggina can defend very well, and our offence is not that great to break them, they rely on counter attacks and Bonazzoli might cause us some problems, he was wanted by us and he is a Corradi style,so we need to mark him well in the box, Nakamura can move fast, and we will have to be alert defensively, they might use their speed against our back line, but two games so far, our back line seems decent enough to handle such threat....

I think we should get a win, but it will be very hard earned, my tip,
Lazio 1 - Reggina 0

Notice: This will be the first game for Di Canio at Olympico after his return to Lazio, it is supposed to be a very emotional game for Paulo....

Wow, you sure did make a effort out of this.

Why didn't you include a vbookie so Javier Zanetti can bet on it.

Great work Mehyar! :USA_Blue

Kayan, Lazio need more time to gell. We haven't impressed much in our first two competitive games so although I'm hoping for a win as well, 1-0 will be fine by me... I wouldn't mind a draw either just as long as we show our fighting spirit. :USA_Blue

Caso intends on continuing with the partnership of Di Canio and Inzaghi in the attack of Lazio for Serie A. Rocchi will be going back to the bench, the same goes for Muzzi. For those players who played the UEFA Cup match Oddo, Siviglia (who is sick due to his throat, but that wont affect his possibilities of starting the game), Antonio Filippini and Cesar will surely be in the starting line-up.

Rocchi wishes to start the game against Reggina

“It was a good performance,” he said after the 3-0 victory away to Metalurg Donetsk, “and I was particularly happy with my goal. When you put the effort in, the results will follow suit.”

The striker was one of nine players who signed for Lazio on the final day of transfer trading, but has already made his mark with that volley on his debut.

“It was easy to settle into the new squad, as the whole atmosphere around Lazio right now is so very positive. When you play alongside world class players it all becomes easier.”

Coach Mimmo Caso has hinted that he will rotate the squad, so former Empoli hitman Rocchi could find himself on the bench this Sunday as Simone Inzaghi and Paolo Di Canio prepare to start the game with Reggina.

“It’s my 27th birthday on Sunday,” revealed Rocchi, “and I would love to celebrate it with my first Serie A start in a Lazio jersey.”

Lazio-Reggina: Post-match comments

Mimmo Caso: “There were moments in this game when we had the chance to really stretch out a lead, but Emiliano Bonazzoli scored a wonderful goal. I don’t mind if Paolo Di Canio doesn’t entertain the crowds all the time, as we are working to get points.”

Walter Mazzarri: “We weren’t able to take advantage of our scoring opportunities, but I think that Reggina deserved to win this game. The penalty was a mistake from the referee, but we won’t put him on trial, these things happen.”

Inzaghi converted a penalty...
I suppose it was an obvious one, and no one dived.
