Crouch in Beattie out??

Aston Villa's Peter Crouch could be set to leave Villa Park after it emerged Bolton Wanderers and Southampton are in talks with the tall striker.
The 23-year-old arrived in the Midlands from Portsmouth for £5 million in March 2002 but has failed to find the back of the net regularly.

Crouch, who spent part of last season on loan at Norwich City, netted four Premiership goals in 10 starts and four substitute appearances for Villa last term.

Saints chairman Rupert Lowe refused to confirm the club were actively chasing Crouch, but admitted the South Coast side are looking to bring in new players.

Could this mean Newcastle have a deal set up with Southampton for the services of James Beattie the sun newspaper seem to think so and think this would be a good deal for us. Beattie reminds me alot of God (big al). People say we can not replace Al and i totally agree because the guy is a living legend but in my opinion Beattie is the closest we will get to him. I would prefer to see Beattie come in than Kluivert but then again i would love them both to come in to the club

Mmmm.

I'd rather take Kluivert over Beattie for the sheer fact he'll bring big european names to the club in the following years.

Plus he is cheaper, and a when he's on form he makes Beattie look like Paul Kitson.

I disagree i like Beattie and thought he deserved a place in the euro 2004 team along with Jermaine De Foe. I would rather have Beattie because his young and british. I see your point of atractting the names though with Kluivert.

If we were the team we should be we would take them both for when Shearer goes because every Newcastle fan no's about Bellamy's injury problems and that leaves us short.

Beattie for £7-8m is not a good deal.

The last thing we should be doing is trying to close our eyes and imagine James Beattie being Alan Shearer- because he's not and never will be. When Shearer retires we will have to change our style of play- it will be a challenge but we could well come out much better for it.

I no he aint going to be Sir Al because no player in the world could replace him but Beattie has proven he can score goals in a middle class Southampton team. With Al helping him along the way and when Al becomes manager teaching him all he nos then i think hell turn out to be a good buy.

The Journal reckons Beattie could very well be on his way to SJP.
He wants to come apparently.

It's much easier to perform in a better team with better players around you though. I would prefer kluivert aswell on the fact he is proven
