That's because they didn't finish high enough in their national leagues.

3 other German teams (Schalke, Dortmund and Hamburger SV) and 1 other Spanish team (Atletico Madrid) start in the 3rd round.
No country has all their teams in the 3rd round directly (except when they only enter 1 team).

A person who we believe to be Cork City manager was at a friendly match of NEC today. Can somebody confirm?

I'm sure there are some Irish league supporters here, who could give you more information.
However that is a picture of Pat Dolan the manager of Cork City, winners over Malmo.Coming to a city near you Novio...soon :USA_Blue

Good news for Cork.. One of our best players, Edgar Baretto of Paraguay won't play saturday cause he is going to his NT to play in the Copa America. Bad news is that we bought a new striker, Romano Denneboom from Heerenveen.

You must be favs Novio, however beating malmo 4-0 (I think ) is a good result for Cork.

Well, normally spoken we would be favorites.. but as I said.. our best players(Barreto and Niedzielan) won't play. And we have just played to friendly matches and are only 2 weeks in training. So Cork are favorites cause they beat Malmo.

Well, I think NEC won't have much trouble with Cork City, don't forget the Irish league is of a low standard.

Not much standard indeed.. Cork did nothing more then defend and kicking all balls away. Only danger of them from free kicks and corners... If we can be concentrated on these situations Cork won't score in Ireland and I think we can get a goal there since Cork has to give away more space. Very Dull match though.

Hey, I thought Cork hit the bar in the frist half. I'm not a Cork Fan, I wish your team well in Ireland. I'm sure you will enjoy yourself if you go over, nice people the Irish

Unfortunately I'm not going, it's too expensive. And they hit the bar out of a corner indeed.

Hibernian (Scotland) 1 : 1 Vetra (Lithuania)
I wa ssurprised at this score, I said in the Scottish forum I expected Hibernian to win quite easily.........the Lithuanian team is well into it's league, that was Hibs first competetive game this season, missing players, maybe I'm making excuses and Vetra were just the better team
That's why Football is so great, sometimes 2 + 2 = 5

I was surprised by how bad NEC was, I think you can do much better then what I saw yesterday. NEC was the better team, but Cork defended really well, they had a few chances as well, but not much. Denneboom had one really good shot, he but lost the ball a few times when it wasn't needed as well. Not a top debut, but can that be expected after 1 training?
Cork is obviousely the most happy about this result, but I still give NEC the best chance in the second leg. After all, NEC will have one more week of training and if NEC manage to break through their defence at least once, then Cork is out because they won't score twice.

Yes we were bad. But what can you expect after 2 weeks training with a almost new squad and a opponent that it only defending.
