A hotly-disputed Ruud van Nistelrooy penalty proved enough to keep Manchester United in the title hunt, and left Ipswich Town's Premiership status hanging by a thread. The Dutchman struck an emphatic spot-kick on the stroke of half-time after referee Rob Styles adjudged he had been pushed in the back by Titus Bramble. It was a decision which incensed the Portman Road faithful, though their side rarely offered enough threat of their own to suggest they would snatch an unlikely victory. Sky News.

United controlled the game throughout but won by a disputed penalty award right on the stroke of half time. The referee adjudged that Ruud van Nistelrooy had been pushed as he went for a cross. It seemed a bit harsh on the TV replays but there was some contact - which is not unexpected in a busy area. So United are now 2nd, 2 points behind Arsenal, with Liverpool dropping to third after their 0-1 away defeat at Spurs earlier in the day. But Arsenal have played 2 games less and have to visit Old Trafford on May 8th. United need Arsenal to at least draw a game to have any chance of retaining their crown which would be an unprecedented 4th in a row. United's last game will then be Charlton at Home on May 11th..........

the foul didn't look to be from bramble to be honest, ruud was shoved in the back by the guy who was on his right dunno his name tho

great penaly tho, right in the side of the net. And they had Roy Evans, ex Pool manager, saying what a joke the decision was

I think it was somewhat harsh but who cares - its the swings and roundabouts thing isn't it?
