Arsenal vs Arsey Meelan - Emirates Cup

Thought we could have a match thread as these matches tend to be taken more seriously than our other pre-season games against crap teams from Austria.

I don't think I can get this game anywhere in Australia which sucks. Looking forward to seeing how JET and the like perform against a quality opposition.

Milan are underdone though, this is only their second friendly and will be Ronaldinholess I think.

Or you could watch Sydney FC vs Blackburn. I bet that will be some top quality stuff.

Honestly, seeing those Blackburn pirkcs getting roughed up by an Australian team wouldn't be the worst thing.

Whats UK kick off time for the game?

Also Ada is 4 nights too long in Manchester? Is the place a hole?

Coverage starts at 4pm, so I'm assuming 4:15pm or 4:30pm BST. That's a late one for you. 4pm kick offs were always the worst for me.

4 days and nights of drizzle

I've never been further than Manchester airport, but I've only heard good things about Manchester. Your better off talking to one of the Man City fans who live there or Lil Yiddo. Birmingham's not great though, I'd keep away from there.

That is a late one, that is a bit **** isn't it.

I will talk to a few of those guys. I was only meant to book 3 nights. Hit 4 instead. I'm an idiot.

Good half. Was slightly disappointed with Frimpong and Wilshere. And then I realised they're both 18, playing against Milan who have Gattuso and Seedorf and have had most of the ball.

The new boys are looking very good. Chamakh seems very good at holding up the ball and winning freekicks. Whilst that might not work in the Premier League against Stoke or Birmingham where you need to have your leg snapped in half to win a foul, it'll be incredibly useful in European matches. He also looked good at chasing stuff down. If I were Bendtner I'd be worried about my place. We'll see if he has the character to raise his game and out perform Chamakh.

Koscielny looks like a brilliant natural defender, but he also looks physically week. His reading of the game is very impressive, his first touch sublime. I'm just slightly concerned he's not the type of centreback that best compliments Vermaelen and vice versa.

So all in all good. Quick word on Nasri cos I'm planning a thread after this match, but does anybody else think he's going to step up this season and become a genuinely world class player. We've only really got Cesc and van Persie who are world class, but I think Nasri will become the third.

Hmm, I think I'll dwell on the negatives and move onto the positives a bit later.

Why is Fabianski playing instead of Mannone and Szczesny still. Or indeed Almunia.

Also Mark Randall. Has anybody seen him do anything remotely good ever?

Other than that very very encouraging.

Now, if Nasri carries his pre season form, that would be some attack. With Persie to join, I'm getting excited already.

Defense moans are for another day. Haven't watched the game to comment on Koscielny.

Chamakh looked immense. He's got tricks and skill and can also use his body like a traditional English centre forward. A bit like Drogba with technique. Doubt he can score nearly as many though.

Praise

Meanwhile, Wenger was happy with the performances of new duo Marouane Chamakh and Laurent Koscielny on their home debuts against AC Milan.
The two summer signings made their Emirates Stadium bows in Saturday's 1-1 draw with Milan in the Emirates Cup.

Chamakh, who joined on a free transfer from Bordeaux, scored for Arsenal, while Koscielny, a Ģ10million arrival from Lorient, looked assured at the back alongside Thomas Vermaelen.
Wenger was impressed by the pair and believes they will prove valuable additions to the squad.

"Chamakh had good presence up front, and played a good intelligent game. He and Koscielny did very well," said Wenger.

"We wanted a player up front who can play for the team and works hard, who can go into combinations and at the back, someone who was calm, can read the game and play the ball out.

"Of course it is only one game, but their attitude in training is very good and they can only improve."
