Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed that all his senior stars not at the World Cup will go on the pre-season tour to the USA and Mexico.

The United boss, rumoured to have been providing the USA with information on England players for Saturday's World Cup match, believes the tour will be perfect preparation for the new season as the Reds bid to regain the Premier League trophy.

He said: "We'll be taking all of our tour games very seriously because the stage we'll be at in terms of our pre-season preparation means we need to get our show on the road.

"The tempo and rhythm of our game has got to be established quickly and hopefully the American fans will see us at our best. We'll have some of our top experienced players with us in Scholes, Giggs, Neville and Van der Sar, while the likes of Fletcher and Berbatov will also be coming."

Michael Owen is confident he will be ready to play a full part in Manchester United's pre-season plans.

The experienced striker has been out of action since suffering a hamstring injury in the Carling Cup final on 28th February.

That setback, which required an operation, sidelined him for the remainder of the 2009/10 campaign and ended any hope he had of forcing his way into England's World Cup squad.

The former Liverpool, Real Madrid and Newcastle forward has, however, been working hard in his rehabilitation and is closing in on full fitness once more.

Owen is pleased with the progress he has made over recent weeks and believes he will be ready to join in with the rest of the United squad when they return to training after the summer break.

"We are not in until the 5th July, that's when everyone's in, but I have been working through June because it would be nice if I could start and do everything with the team straight away," he told Sky Sports News.

"It's looking so far that I will be able to do that.

"Hopefully I won't miss any pre-season training, as it's always nice to get a full pre-season in. I am working hard at the minute."

Over the next two to three weeks, most clubs pre seasons won't have that many big names due to most of them playing in the World Cup and now being given time off.

Not too bothered by who goes anyway, just hope by the time we play Newcastle, or at least the window closes, we've brought in one or two players we desperately need.

Neville out now too.

Sky Sports

Quote:
Gary Neville will miss Manchester United's pre-season tour of America after sustaining a small tear in his calf muscle.

The veteran defender was set to play a part in United's preparations for the new season next month, but will now remain at the club's Carrington training ground base instead of flying out to Chicago on Monday.

The 35-year-old's knock is thought to only be a minor setback and he will be rested to prepare for the start of the Premier League in August.

It will come as a blow to the player after recovering from a series of injuries to finish strongly at Old Trafford after being offered a one-year extension to his deal as his career winds down.

Neville joins England captain Rio Ferdinand on the treatment table, who was unable to play any part in his country's World Cup campaign after injuring his knee in their first training session before the tournament.

United will face Celtic in their opening game of their tour in Toronto next Friday, with several first-team players, including new signings Chris Smalling and Javier Hernandez, joining the party.

^^ Probly the most uninspiring touring squad I have ever seen.

I think for the first time in over 10 years, I wont be picking up MUTV to watch our pre-season games.

Well to be fair just because he didn't play doesn't mean he was well rested - he had weeks more training than any player who wasn't at the world cup.

VDS, Kuszczak, Amos as a goalkeeping triumvirate. Oh my god :/

Interesting to see Nani there considering he missed the world cup and slightly disappointed Cathcart isn't going.

Good chance to see the youngsters try and prove a point.

Carrick left at home? Surely this means he's being sold?

Well there were the rumours he was fit to play and the reason he went home is because of a bust up with Queiroz (spelling belhh).

Could be that, or they could just be soothing his ego. "Of course you can have an extra break, Michael. You brave little World Cup warrior, you."

Glad to see Cleverley has gone. Hopefully he can convince Fergie not to farm him out this season.

What the hell are the sports bras about? Are they instead of the chest monitors we see strapped to the players during pre season games?

Don't think Gibson is that bad, really, just the angle of the picture:

He looks alright there, though his hairline is pretty much the worst in that picture considering he's by far the youngest

Has anyone seen the kick off times for the tour games?

Celtic v United, 16th July - midnight
Philadelphia Union v United, 21st July - 1.30am
Kansas City Wizards v United, 25th July - 11pm
MLS All Stars v United, 28th July - 1.30am

... I'll probably use youtube for highlights then, though I'm not sleeping well these days so might catch a stream if I'm still awake.

For some reason I was expecting them to be on in the evening time here, though that would have meant mid afternoon games in places like Houston, so I didn't really think that through

We're six hours ahead
