Madrid, July 11
Cameroon midfielder Geremi will play for Chelsea next season after Real Madrid confirmed that they would sell the 24-year-old to the English Premiership side, the Spanish club announced on Friday.
A source at the Spanish champions told AFP that the transfer depended on the player passing a medical as well as financial guarantees from the London club.
It is understood that the deal will be worth around 10 million euros (6.9 million pounds).
Real Madrid had originally valued Geremi at 12 million euros (8.3 million pounds) while Chelsea, who have recently been bought out by Russian multi-millionaire Roman Abramovich, were offering seven million euros (4.7 million pounds).
Real were willing to offload the midfielder, who spent last season on loan at Middlesbrough, following the arrival of England captain David Beckham.
Barry Silkman, Geremi's English representative, said earlier Friday: "A fee of 10 million euros has been agreed and terms will be finalised sooner or later - hopefully in the next 24 to 48 hours they'll be agreed."
"For him it's a great opportunity - at Real maybe he wouldn't be a regular," Silkman told Sky Sports News.
"He enjoyed his time at Middlesbrough but Chelsea are the most up-and-coming club at the moment and that's the one he's chosen to go to.
"It looks like Chelsea are going to buy some quality players."
Chelsea, who will play in the Champions League next season, have been linked with a host of world stars since the takeover.
