Hello,

This afternoon I saw a great rugby game between the Leeds Rhinoes and St. Helens. In Holland Rugby is never on the TV so I can't see it often, only on saturday on the BBC. That's one of the reasons I don't know the differences between all the leagues and cups, I thought Leeds-St. Helens was for the "powergen challenge cup" (?). But there also is the six nations cup, rugby union, rugby league, heineken cup.
I like to see a game of rugby but if I don't know or a good team is playing against a bad team or it's a very important league it's less exciting

Can anyone explain the differences between all the leagues?
And what's the most important one?

i donno much about it but i think tht rugby union: play the heineken cup. Parker Pen Cup and in the Zurich Prem.

Rugby League: play the powergen challenge cup.

Six Nations are ( i think) the six european teams playing each other ( bit like euro 2004 for footie), this re the team tht play in it :
England
Ireland
France
Scotland
Italy
Wales

Rugby league & Rugby Union are 2 different sports. Rugby league is played with 13 players & Union with 15.
The most important tournament in the Northern Hemisphere in Union is the Heineken Cup & the Super 12's in the Southern Hemisphere. The major tournament for International sides is the 6 nations ( Wales,England,Ireland,Scotland,Italy & France), the Southern hemispheres equivalant is the Tri-Nations ( New Zealand,Australia & South Africa). There is also a 4 yearly World Cup ( 1st held in 1985) which is being held in Australia later in the year). NO European side has won the World Cup thus far but England could go close this time as at present they are probably the best side in the World :crying
As for Rugby League you'd better ask the Northern monkey's about that game

Although I'm a proud Welshman (like you'd never of guessed ), I much prefer League to Union. Much better to watch and the refs try and keep the game flowing. By all accounts Knoert, the game you saw between Leeds and St Helens was an absolute cracker

So if I understand it well, two different kinds of rugby, union (15 players) and league (13 players).
Union: Northern Hemisphere: Heineken Cup, 6-nations, Zurich prem. league, Parker pen Cup Southern Hemisphere: Super 12's and Tri-nations.

League: Rugby league (in England) and powergen challenge cup.

Union has european competitions, Heineken cup, six-nations cup, does "rugby league" also have european cups and tournaments between countries?

Have you watched a Welsh rugby union game in the last few years??? Te refs are whistle happy, the players' fitness for professionals in a complete disgrace and the skill levels are abysmal

Don't bury your head in the sand bluemoon

The biggest problem we have in Wales is thinking everything will work out well in the end. League is much more entertaining

International Rugby Union is by far the best sport to watch for excitement and tension.

I used to think League was dull as s***. Then i spent a year in Australia and watched it a lot. I did get quite into it, especially the State of Origin games, they were awesome.

Its still too stop start, eg 6 tackles and lose possesion, to be as good as Union but its still very good.

Nah, the most skillful are French backs or southern hemisphere backs.
Not too many 'flair' players in the UK anymore :crying

Depends what you mean by skill. There is much more space so it may appear more skillful. Union requires much more tactical and fast thinking ability, its just a more dynamic game

league you have so many tackles before you got to give it back to opposition which means you spread it about more hense more skillfull imo
your either union or league i suppose as there fans of either codes union is more for down south and league is for us northerners

Rugby Union - if you have a big, dominant pack and two good half backs, the rest of the team might as well go home. Rugby League has the ball in play far more than Rugby Union. It takes a minute to sort a line out, or a scrum and the refs are always stopping the game for numerous infringements. Don't get me wrong, when union is played well there is nothing like it. Unfortunately that's only four games a season

With league, you very rarely have a dull game

I agree to a certain extent. When a Union match is bad its very very dull, wheras league rarely is, due to more space/less players.

However what i really love is International Rugby and that is very very rarely dull. And beats league every time.

Although State of Origin in Australia was superb.
