If everything goes right for Sporting until the end of the season, Liedson just might see the CL next year.

This situation sounds a lot like the one with Quaresma when Sporting signed him to a contract valid until this year lol where is he now? My point is since when are soccer contracts guaranteed...Liedson won't stay in Sporting that long

If we do make it to Champions League next year and he plays good there, then I am sure he will leave at the end of next season.

I think this was a smart move, if they put to much pressure on him about playing for a big team he might flop, and he has been very important to the Sporting team, so good move to them.

hes right...all a contract guarentees is that Liedson wont be leaving on the Bosman ruling anytime soon...and sporting can put a little coin in their pocket when he does leave

Sporting striker signs on
skysports
Sporting Lisbon have been handed a massive boost with the news that prolific striker Liedson has signed a new contract to remain with the Portuguese giants.
The quick-footed Brazilian had been involved in lengthy discussions over his future, but he has finally quelled Sporting fans' worries by signing a new deal that will keep him at the club until the end of the 2009/10 season.
The 28-year-old expressed his delight at the new deal, and has huge ambitions for the Lisbon club.
"I'm extremely happy," the free-scoring Brazilian said.
"I always expressed my wish to renew my contract with Sporting and I'd like to thank Sporting and the club president for the faith they've shown in me.
"Now I want to continue to work hard, like I have done since I arrived on the first day in 2003.
"I want to repay the faith and confidence shown in me with goals and titles.
"I want titles, titles and more titles."
The deal will be seen as a significant coup for Sporting, tying down one of the hottest talents in the Portuguese top-flight.
With Liedson's initial contract due to expire at the end of the season, speculation of a move to a host of clubs had continued for several months.
There was speculation at one point that he may even join bitter city rivals Benfica; a claim which the striker dismissed outright.
"There is no way that I could ever play in another shirt that wasn't Sporting's in Portugal," he added.
Liedson was top scorer in last season's Super Liga with 25 goals, and he has netted 12 so far this campaign.
