accourding to this article....
http://www.getwokingham.co.uk/sport/...for_reading_fc
... McCleary has snubbed our £10k a week offer in favour of Readings £15k

obviously not an official source but i suppose it's not coming as a surprise to any of us that something like this would happen. We should have offered something like that ages ago... probably could have offered less and got him so long as we did it much much earlier.

£15k though, I don't want him to go, but at that price he's not for us.

but also from that article...

Quote:
Huddersfield’s star striker Jordan Rhodes is also a player McDermott is keeping close tabs on.

Rhodes notched his 39th goal in 44 appearances in front of the Reading boss.
Hope we're looking at that guy as well. Huddesfield didn't go up so it's possible Rhodes is looking elsewhere, and at a higher division at that. We should be able to easily offer better wages... depends if he's out of contract or not though, but even so we should make a play for him before better teams than us do

Huddersfield are in the Playoff final so might go up...

He is being touted as moving if he does for £4-6m. We won't be going anywhere near him.

Rhodes is well out of our price range unfortunately.

He will be at a rich champ club or lower prem club next year.

hmm, i looked on the league one website before posting and it didn't do the "Agg" thing next to the result last night, so since they lost last night i figured that was the final :/ just looked at BBC version of events and seems it wasn't the final and they won on 3-2 on agg. meh @ dodgey sites

the problem we have had for many years has been wanting to sign players a move too late. so many of our targets like pratley, whittingham, etc were available for well under a million a few years back. rhodes too of course. until we find someone who can spot players that no one else notices we won't achieve above our level. our rivals all made 500k signings that went a long way to taking them up, Sinclair, holt and Charlie Adam. that's what we need to do and its not easy

Swansea have offered us 2mil for Gunter.

Atm would be a bad move to sell him... we've got no money, but we've also got no indication that player sales would put money into the pot in order for us to offer contracts or sign new players, so no point in selling him until we get some clarification on our budget, unless Gunter insists on leaving, then no point hanging on to him, but doubt he'd do that because he refused to move before because he doesn't want to be a backup player.

If we did sell though... 2mil is their first offer, we can surely get more. Gunter is worth more to us in our current situation as well, not just because of his skill, but because of all the out of contract people who could be leaving. Besides, i'm sure the club still remembers all the price rising that Swansea did to us a while back. We can easily get more money out of Swansea if they want him

As I said on Twitter, we signed Gunter for £1.8m a few years back and whilst he hasn't set the world alight he is one of those players who will be slot into a Prem team and be a success, such as he would at Swansea.

Anything less then £2.5m is an insult, I personally value him far closer to £3m but beggars can't be choosers huh?

What to do with the money though?

Offer Lynch, Chambers, Freeman, Lascelles new contracts? Or a new batch of players.

Id go for the former.

thats the thing though... until we are told a budget by the doughty estate or we're takenover by a new owner, we get exactly £0 going back into the kitty from the sale, i also wonder if the contracts we offered McCleary and Lynch are somewhat token jestures since we can't actually spend anything at the moment, but we thought they wouldn't sign anyway.

Swansea have denied making a move for Gunter.

think that article is slightly wrong though, as it says Gunter played for us 50 times last season... surely that can't be right.

Wouldn't surprise me, did he miss any League games?

Played twice v Leicester in the FA and then Carling Cup.

yeah he missed a few had a knock at one point and also was rested. Meh, not like it matters anyway, just seems a bit high for one player who's not a keeper.

Read into that what you will but it's probably balls... unless i'm just following the wrong people

here's a list of recently released players
Quote:
Ricardo Gardner, Gretar Steinsson and Ivan Klasnic are among those released, while Nigel Reo-Coker has activated a release clause in his contract.
Paul Robinson, Sean Davis, Robbie Blake, Mark Connolly, Tope Obadeyi, Rhys Bennett, Dino Fazlic and Tom Eckersley have also not been offered new deals.
don't think we'd get any of them but wasn't we once linked to Nigel Reo-Coker? Before Cotterill's time when we were linked with him, but we've probably still got some contacts there and may be worth a punt... not like we'd get him or anything, but he's a free agent, can't hurt to talk to him.

it's the same as anything when negotiating money is concerned; can offer 1p if we want, doesn't mean they have to accept... just add the old "undisclosed amount" thing when telling the press and it gives us fans a bit of confidence that we're doing something

Nope. It will be Chambers, Lynch, Harewood and Boateng gone.

I suppose Boateng and Harewood are a given cos it's the end of their contracts. Chambers and Lynch, probably... amost definately Chambers cos we've not even offered him a contract yet. Probably not Lynch as we've offered him a contract and he's on international duty... gives him an excuse to delay it all i suppose :S

Also Meadows has just left...
http://www.ripleyandheanornews.co.uk...arts-1-4576500

He's signed a 2 year deal at Alfreton. I seem to remember someone/somewhere saying he was a bright prospect for the future and now he's joined Alfreton Town. Very doubtful he'd get picked ahead of Raddi or McGugan, but thought we'd loan him out again. Big shame imo but i suppose he couldn't have been that great if he's joining a non-league team on a perm.

Its a shame Meadows has gone, he was tipped to be a good player, probably a squad player like Matt Thronhill was.

Its an extra body thats gone which is the main thing, gonna have hardly anyone soon

mainly about Anderson...

Quote:
STEVE Cotterill will fight to keep Paul Anderson at Nottingham Forest.

The winger's contract expires in the next few weeks and it had been questioned whether he would be retained at the City Ground.

Despite being a key man in two successive play-off pushes, Anderson played only a peripheral role last season, as he struggled with injuries, most recently a thigh strain.

But the Post understands that manager Cotterill does plan to offer the former Liverpool and Swansea man a new deal.

Cotterill has been unable to offer skipper Luke Chambers fresh terms because of the continued financial uncertainty.

And the defender has been linked with several of the Reds' Championship rivals in the meantime, as clubs look to pick up the experienced defender on a free transfer.

But it has now become clear that negotiations with Anderson have also only been delayed by the club's continued search for new owners.

Cotterill has not yet been given a budget to work with, as the estate of former chairman Nigel Doughty continue in their efforts to sell Forest.

And, while that is having an impact on his efforts to rebuild a squad that currently only has one senior defender under contract for the coming season, it is also limiting his attempts to retain his current players.

Garath McCleary and Joel Lynch were both offered new deals, with the winger opting to instead sign for Premier League Reading and Lynch still to make a decision after being offered a £7k a week package.

And, with Anderson playing only a peripheral role in the club's survival bid, it was thought that the 23-year-old may be allowed to leave for nothing.

But City Ground sources have indicated that Cotterill hopes to retain his services.

As long as Anderson is offered the same terms as his current deal before the end of the month, the club would not be at risk of losing the player on a free transfer, as he is not yet 24.

But that in itself could yet prove to be a stumbling block, with Cotterill likely to have to work to a strict budget if no takeover is completed in the coming weeks.
If one player were to be released by choice, like part of the main team, i would have thought it would have been Anderson... rather keep him n all, but i'd have thought we'd be offering Chambers a new deal before him.

Lynch is still mulling things over, and we've offered 7k apprently, i assume his agent has got him waiting until after the international match, cos if he plays and plays well, they can ask for more, usual agent stuff.

Id rather keep Chambers then Anderson. Midfield isn't where we are lacking plus Anderson hasn't been good for a long time.
