Murray Backs Le Guen

Rangers chairman David Murray has offered his full support to under-fire manager Paul Le Guen.

"I will evaluate the situation at the end of the season, but I do not see any need to panic," Murray said.
"It is not in my mind to change anything and I hope it is not in Paul's mind either."

"Domestically, results have not been acceptable, but I believe we can turn the corner and improve. Paul is here for the long-term."
Rangers are already 15 points behind holders Celtic in the Scottish Premier League.

And Wednesday's CIS Insurance Cup exit at home to First Division St Johnstone was one of the worst in Rangers' history and resulted in a protest by about 300 fans at Ibrox.

Murray had kept his own counsel about the results until joining Le Guen in addressing first-team players on Friday.

The chairman, who had tracked the former Lyon coach for some time before making the summer appointment, and the Frenchman went on to attend a news conference.

"At the start of the season, 18 out of 24 journalists tipped Rangers to win the league and it was widely acknowledged that Paul was a great appointment," said Murray.
"And I have no reason to change my mind about that.
"There have been voices of discontent, but it only makes Paul and I more determined.
"Anyone who knows my track record as a chairman and a businessman knows that I do not make quick decisions.
"I do not make changes after 10 weeks."
Le Guen maintains that he is ready to carry on the battle to turn around Rangers' fortunes.
"I have no regrets," he said. "More than ever, I am happy to be here and I am ready to fight on."
Rangers captain Barry Ferguson had on Thursday insisted that everyone at the club must shoulder the responsibility.
"I know the gaffer is getting a lot of stick right now, but Paul Le Guen is putting out the teams and those crossing the white line have to do more and perform," he said.
"We had some angry fans outside the ground demonstrating and I have to say that, while I understand their frustration, I can't see why the chairman David Murray is being slaughtered.
"Over 18 years, he has done wonders for Rangers and the harsh truth is we are now at a stage where we can't buy our way out of trouble.
"The finances aren't there now and everyone knows that."
The Rangers Supporters' Trust has urged David Murray to dig deep and bail their club out of trouble.
Trust spokesman Stephen Smith said: "Our view is that a Ł3m net spend in the summer was never going to be enough to close the gap on a Celtic team who have added Thomas Gravesen and Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink to their squad. "Some of the manager's signings have not been up the standard required at Rangers, but he hasn't really had enough funding."

this is from the official website.

DAVID MURRAY insisted today that Paul Le Guen is at Rangers for the long haul and believes the Frenchman will turn around the team's fortunes on the domestic front.

The Chairman felt in necessary to go public after a string of results which he desrcibed as unacceptable and has seen Rangers fall 15 points behind Celtic in the SPL and suffer elimination from the CIS Cup at the hands of First Division St Johnstone.

He revealed that he had a meeting with the players as a group to spell out exactly what is required of them and also spoke with the supporters' groups as well as the Rangers Board.

Paul Le GuenHe remains convinced that the appointment of Paul Le Guen is the right one and that he will improve the current situation. Murray also indicated that there is some money to spend in January, should Le Guen require it.

Murray said today: "Paul is here for the long term and we back him as the manager. You don't make a change after 10 weeks.

"There is no change in our relationship and we will evaluate the siutation at the end of the season. I have no intentions of changing and I hope Paul feels the same way.

"When we appointed Paul there was universal approval. I have not changed my mind. We stick together at Rangers.

"There is no doubt that domestically our results are poor and very disappointing. They are unacceptable. European-wise they are very satisfactory.

"I believe that we will turn the corner on the field. There is money for Paul to spend if he requires it. But we are not prepared to spend the money we did in the past."

Thanks Sammy

It's nothing that we didn't expect, just some support for the manager and to piss on any papers trying to run with the month to save your job etc etc

the one positive thing is there is some money to spend.

i'm glad hes sticking by le guen cause i don't think le guen is to blame for everything thats happened and i don't think it's fair to sack him straight away theres alot of work to be done with this rangers team and it's hard to make an impact with very few transfer funds. hopefully we can get some new players in january and hopefully can turn our season around!

Least David Murray is keeping us posted on what is going on.

I'm sure Le Guen will crack the SPL soon.

The smaller amount of funds isn't the problem. It's the misuse of those funds and purchasing players that obviously aren't good enough. I'd rather bring in two excellent players, than 5-6 average players.

Pretty much. You can get great players for cheap, but Le Guen has failed in that department. I'd like to see Sebo get more time on the pitch though in the future. He's definitely a talent.

But Svensson, Papac, etc all seem like desperate purchases.

Papac looks a solid player he's looked bad sometimes playing in a bad defence. The main good signing PLG made was Clement who is a great young player and tipped to make the full international team.

'Murray backs Le Guen'...

That's ironic because so do the Celtic fans.

Paul Leaguewin (for the Celts that is ) must stay!!
