According to Spanish daily newspaper, AS, Javier Portillo is set to join Lazio on loan for a year from Real Madrid.
The 22-year-old striker will not find much space with Raul, Ronaldo and Morientes ahead of him, therefore Camacho would prefer to see Portillo go on loan to an important team in order to get experience and football time on the pitch for the future.

The young striker is also followed by Panathinaikos and Zaragoza, however Lazio seems the most likely destination for Portillo who would be able to match his skills in Serie A and the Uefa Cup.

I think this is true...cos I wrote it :D

Javier Zanetti Jul 27 2004 05:06 PM

Only when I see Portillo in a Lazio kit Glenn ;)

KD_7 Jul 28 2004 12:26 AM

Hopefully he'll join us, I don't see him getting muich playing time at Real Madrid..

Torquemada Jul 28 2004 12:32 AM

Good signing. It was also at channel4 so I think it's true ;)

KD_7 Jul 28 2004 12:39 AM

Channel 4 are better than some other websites (I think) but they tend to talk nonsense as well sometimes - I agree with what Javier Zanetti just said:

Real Madrid striker Javier Portillo will be playing on loan with another club this season, but where exactly he will be headed is still unkown.
Jose Antonio Camacho confirmed that the promising striker is not in his plans for the upcoming season and subsequently left him out of the squad that is currently on tour in Japan.

One possible destination could be Arsenal, as Portillo may join the gunners as part of the deal that will see Patrick Vieira become a Real Madrid player.

Portillo has also been linked with moves to Lazio, Atletico Madrid, Malaga, Porto and Benfica.

Look for Portillo to end up at a new club by the end of the week.

What the hell is with that now, so are you trying to hype up your stories about Viera and Real Madrid, I mean for sure the Arsenal thing is a speculation from Goal.com, nothing concrete about it.....

Rumors throughout italian media, that Portillo will join Fiorentina instead.
That would be a way better move for him. :USA_Blue

You don't really need him alongside Lopez, Muzzi and Inzaghi anyway...

But because of the finances Claudio is likely to leave and Inzaghi is being rumoured to go as well (not as strongly as Claudio though). This would leave Muzzi, Pandev and Delgado as our forwards. We've all seen what Muzzi can do and Pandev is having a great pre-season but Delgado is inexperienced. If Inzaghi stays he could be useful to us as well - but only if he stops copying his brother (e.g. stops diving and stops being consistantly offside) :salute

I think it's fair to say that we haven't got the best attack in the Serie A - so Portillo would definately get playing time at Lazio.

I "like" this attack of yours now better then when lazio had players like Signori, Mancini, Casiraghi or Boksic...

Have you seen the backheel goal of Mancini in a derby?
Not quite as beautifull as the one from Amantino Mancini last season though. ;)

Javier Garcia Portillo will be playing on loan with Serie A side Fiorentina next season, according to Spanish website Marca.
The deal was sealed off this afternoon, and key to its successful conclusion was Fiorentina general manager Lucchesi’s decision to renounce on an option to gain full ownership of the player at the end of the season.

Portillo is one of Real Madrid’s main young prospects, but currently he has all doors in the starting line-up closed off due to the presence of Ronaldo, Raul, Morientes and Guti in the Merengue squad.

Yet another disappointment, but I dont get it, we surely would have offered him first team football, and European experience as we are playing in UEFA ....

What a waste in Fiorentina, they are really making some signings :banghead

Mehyar Jul 28 2004 09:17 PM

ANd Glenn it is just not working with you lately :laugh

He's a Romanista; it's not his fault. ;)

It's a shame we couldn't get Portillo - I know Viola used to be a big club and all but they've just got promoted - I don't understand how they're attracting all these players?
