personally i would still like him to stay for now just becuz theres no cover for nowotny and worns ,only baumann ,plus he can play in defensive midfield, now jeremies is more or less certain to go to portugal,

That's bad. Bad timing from Ramelow to retire. Why now?? Should have retired some ago if he had it in mind. Now he played alot of experimental matches that should have gone to someone else. At least he should have told Völler about it so the coach could push in a youngster in some friendlies.
I hope Völler has got a good substitute.

I honestly think the German squad will be worse off without him.

I don't think Voller dropped him.He has been playing really well for Leverkusen in midfield.You can't drop him because he played badly in defence alongside Jeremies.
Ramelow is a big game player.

Bayer Leverkusen's no-nonsense midfielder Carsten Ramelow has told German coach Rudi Voller that he will not available for his Euro 2004 squad.

The 30-year-old defensive specialist informed Voller of his decision to retire from the international scene earlier in May, but the news was only made public on Wednesday.

Ramelow, who had a poor match as a makeshift centre half during Germany's recent 5-1 thrashing at the hands of Romania, said that his injury-plagued season was the reason for his decision plus the fact that he wanted to 'give some younger players a chance with a view to the 2006 World Cup'.

He added that he had told Voller he would be prepared to travel to Portugal 'in an absolute emergency', should any of his first-choice midfielders pull out of the side.

Ramelow played in both the Euro 2000 and the 20002 World Cup, winning a total of 46 caps along the way.

LOL, I dont know why some of you are happy about this. I mean yeah Ramelow is not world class but he is not bad either. In fact he is quite solid in midfield and not bad as centerback. With Rehmer and Metzelder out and a out of form Nowotny, we could really use him in there. Who the hell else is Voller gonna call up for defense? Farenhorst is inexperienced, Huth is not ready....there is gonna be very little depth in defense, hope nobody else gets injured. Lets not forget how well Ramelow played in WC2002, especially the final..

the fact that ramelow play well in 2002 is not a good point, he sucks now he's low like a cow now , and his place will be filled by a youngster(hopefully schweini), besides we have a lot of defensive midfielders(baumman,hamman,jeremies,khel,ernst,fri ngs) why should keep another one and who is in bad form currently(he has one of the lowest duel-win % in BL),so that's the reason of happyness of a lot people on here ballack13....

i hope jeremies will do the same as ramelow did, come on jerry now is your chance¡¡¡ :USA_Blue

I agree that as a defensive midfielder, we have no use for him but I am talking about him as a centerback. IF Voller goes with the traditional 3-5-2 formation, he could be very useful considering we are without Metzelder, Rehmer.....I guess Kehl is capable of playing there but he is much more used to midfield..

And u guys r dreaming of schweni ..voller ont put a 19 yr kid to be the power of germanys defense !! he needs someone a bit more experienced .. i think he will leave that position for someone else and use this space for putting deisler in the squad hopefully :clap :clap
