Djurgårdens IF 2004

Let this be the official thread of Djurgårdens IF.

I have a question. What happened to Jesper Blomqvist? I know he came to DIF last season and he's one of my favourite Swedish players.

Squad News:

OUT:

Kim Källström, 21, midfielder. (Stade Rennais, France)

A tough, though expected, loss for Djurgården. Källström has dominated the Swedish league during his two years in DIF and his transfer to a bigger league has only been a matter of time. The Swedish international has signed a four-year contract with French club Stade Rennais, giving Djurgården approximately €2,000,000 in payment.

Samuel Wowoah, 27, forward. (Stabaek, Norway)

During the last season Wowoah had trouble with gaining the managers’ confidence. He has therefore chosen to play for Norwegian club Stabaek the coming season. Stabaek will hire Wowoah during the season of 2004.

Dembo Touray, 23, goalkeeper. (Vålerenga, Norway)

In order to get experience from a first division club, Touray will play for Vålerenga the coming season. DIF has the opportunity to cancel the loan halfway through the year.

Patrik E Ohlsson, 30, defender. (Sundsvall, Sweden)

After last summer’s entrance of Toni Kuivasto, Patrik had difficulties with gaining time on the pitch. He was therefore hired by GIF Sundsvall, where he soon became the team’s most important player and helped the club to stay in Allsvenskan. Sundvall has now reached an agreement with DIF and signed a three-year contract with Patrik E Ohlsson.

Richard Henriksson, 22, defender. (Brommapojkarna, Sweden)

Christer Mattiasson, 31, forward. (Brommapojkarna, Sweden)

Johan Wallinder, 28, forward. (?)

IN:

Abgar Barsom, 26, midfielder. (Heerenveen, Holland)

After having spent 1.5 years in Eredivisie, Abgar Barsom has returned to Djurgården in order to replace Kim Källström. The contract reaches for three years.

Tobias Hysén, 21, forward. (Häcken, Sweden)

Hysén, Swedish U21 international and son of former Liverpool defender Glenn Hysén, has signed a four-year deal with the regent Swedish champions.

Matias Concha, 23, wing-back (Malmö, Sweden)

Leaving Swedish top-rival MFF, Concha has signed a 3-year deal with Djurgården.

Oskar Wahlström, 27, goalkeeper. (Västerås, Sweden)

Brought in to replace Dembo Touray as back-up for Andreas Isaksson. Wahlström has earlier played for Västerås in the Swedish 2nd division.

Djurgården has also reached an agreement with Liverpool FC concerning the promising striker Daniel Sjölund. Sjölund, who was hired from the English club during the last season, will play for DIF the following three years.

Dont think he'll get much experience... Rekdal said he'll use him as a back-up in case Bolthof gets injured. Øyvind Bolthof is a good keeper and I dont think Touray can replace him.

Kallstrom - this is the biggest blow. I don`t know why they got only 2m for him.

and , yeah - where is Blomquist?

Max Power Mar 1 2004 11:40 PM

Pyrtas, I haven't found any news on him! Not even at the main site. I think he was just there on a loan, meaning he should be back at Charlton. I think.

I'm still working out the kinks though. Omgång 1-3 are in another subforum and I think the rest are in the Sverige subforum. Check my site on Monday and I should have all of that straightened.

Coaching changes at Djurgårdens IF

After a disappointing season thus far in Allsvenskan, chairman Bo Lundqvist has opted to sack Zoran Lukic has head coach. Lukic was offered a position in lower management, but he snubbed the offer.

Kjell Jonevets replaces Lukic has head coach. A decission that may help the Dutch international, Geert den Ouden, who was on the outs with the club. This shouldn't make Dutch club, De Graafschap, who lined up a deal to snatch den Ouden.

My thoughts, a change was needed, but I think a little earlier. There's no way of repeating the Championship winning team of last year, and I hope they fight for a spot in Europe.

Currently, they are in seventh position.

Ceres Jul 24 2004 10:39 PM

It's sad what is happening to Djurgården losing so many of their top players and falling appart perhaps also losing sponsors as well... and it's hardly Zoran Lukic fault... Åkeby has just told the Danish media that he would like Lukic as assistant coach in AGF, just like in Djurgården... but AGF's managing director Frank Heskjaer has said no... so far.. but lets see what happens...

With the very low transfers being payed in European football, something new has to happen in Swedish football, so that the clubs can find new ways to earn some more money, otherwise it's downhill all the way for Allsvenskan and they will never be able to keep the best players and get a chance to play for the big money in the Europa cups... It's the managing directors that have to wake up to reality, better sooner than later...
.

Vidi Vici Jul 25 2004 01:55 AM

It's a bit strange because Allsvenskan has way higher attendance numbers than both Tippeligaen and SAS ligaen (meaning more supporters), but both of the two other leagues has more money floating in them.
Also, the oppertunity for good sponsor deals should be alot easier to make in Sweden, because the marked is almost as big as the Danish and Norwegian marked together.

Max Power Jul 25 2004 03:46 AM

Well, sponsorship is a big one. Norway has Norske Tippe, which is the national lottery. Denmark has the Scandinavian airline, SAS. Even Finland has Veikkaus, the national lottery. From what I remember, a lot of people play the lottery, so that's where a lot of the money comes from. I know Svenska Spel sponsor the national team, but the Allsvenskan stands alone. Even the English have, Barclayard-- an insurance firm!

Transfers are a big problem. Rennes pratically stole Källström and Isaksson! I'm not sure, but both probably went for 2 million euros each! Stefandis is out to a club that I can't remember, and they probably get 2 million for den Ouden, if they are lucky. If Djurgården had a youth system like Nantes and Lille of France's Ligue 1 or an Ajax or PSV youth corps, I wouldn't worry for the longterm, but I don't see any new talent coming up through the ranks, unless they sign me for next season.

I dunno if u know by know...but anyway...

Jesper has been struggling with injuries since he went for his OP in Decemeber. He was back training in August after 8 months, and was gonna play for Djugården's reserves...but strained a muscle He has now decided that he's not going to play anymore football this year. He says he'll be back in 2005, but I doubt it.

On the bottom of the article it says that Rami Shabaan is on trial for Lillestrøm. I they'll sign him soon.

egyptian player Nov 9 2004 02:14 PM

thanks man so much for your replaying

petelars Nov 30 2004 09:32 PM

Hi all

I was wondering... Babis Stefanidis. He's been with BIF for a ½ season now, and man has he stunk. He always tries the hard solution - never succeeds - and AAARGH he's just frustrating to watch. He hasn't found his old form with Elmander....

How good was he, really, when with Djurgården?

Max Power Dec 12 2004 08:50 PM

Babis was a promising Swedish U-21, until he flopped abroad. It's really disappointing to see a player do that.

Djurgårdens is having one hell of a time this off season. They are sent to lose Andreas Johansson, which will really hurt the team. Their performance in Royal League has been sub-par at the best of times, and their fans are just making it worse. If current trends continue, Djurgårdens will find themselves in Superettan; which is something I don't want to see!

Max Power Dec 13 2004 02:05 AM

Transfers

IN:
Kari Arnason

OUT:
Juraj Dovicovic
Aziz Corr-Nyang

Not too much action so far. Andreas Johansson is exploring his options. As I am writing this, Djurgårdens is preparing to play Esbjerg in Royal League :devil , let's see how that turns out.
