Striker Misimovic in Bochum switch

18.12.2003 | 21 year-old Bayern reserve striker Zvjezdan Misimovic is on the move, following in the footsteps of Philipp Lahm and Markus Husterer who have both left the Munich second string for pastures new in the Bundesliga this term.

Misimovic, a regular in the Bavarians' third division south 'amateur' side but restricted to two brief substitute appearances in the senior team this season, will move in July 2004 on a free transfer to Ruhr Valley club VfL Bochum, where he has been offered a three-year contract.

The player nicknamed Zwetschge joined Bayern as a youth in July 1997, collecting German youth championship honours in 2000-2001 and progressing to the second team. He is currently joint top scorer in the third division south alongside team-mate José Paolo Guerrero with 14 goals from 17 games. The Bayern reserves, coached by Hermann Gerland, head the section and remain undefeated in this term's campaign.

The fcbayern.de team wishes Zwetschge all the best for a successful future.

Why do they even waste money on the youth team??? :banghead :banghead

You can't possibly hope to keep all your youth players and reserve players. It's a just the nature of the beast that is professional soccer. Or any sport for that matter.

And at 21, he should be playing at a higher level on a more consistent basis. Better than squandering your talents in a regional league, hoping to someday be called up to a the main team. I don't see any of Bayern's main strikers going anywhere soon and with the interest in Tevez, it's not like the future was looking bright for this player in regards to gaining a spot on the regular team.

sigh..i really was looking forward to seeing Misimovic play in the senior team :( I think he has potential to be a great striker, its really sad to see bayern letting youths leave like that with Lahm and Misimovic..hopefully Schwiensteiger will stay on and sign a new contract.

Dandy is right. With Bayern's policy to buy quality foreign strikers there is almost no way for the youth to shine. The solution is to stop foreigners, give the German youth a chance. Even if Bayern is a big team, so what? the Germans can make it big, just check my CL Final 99 thread

I don't understand why Bayern don't do what Juve do with their young players ,they've got at least 10 young players on loan or joint ownership and whenever these players get the breakthru ,they recall them back ,example ,maresca, micoli,,brighi, blasi, moretti

That's what they should be doing. They should be loaning out these young players to smaller Bundesliga clubs or 2nd league clubs...or even to clubs in other countries. That way they will develop against better competition and it gives you a better chance to guage who will be a good fit for the Bayern squad...and who would do better somewhere else permanently.
