UPDATE 2010-2011: Everything about Dutch football

For the foreigners who wants to know more about Dutch football this topic.

Professional Leagues: There are 2 professional leagues.
-The Eredivisie with 18 teams
-The Jupiler League (First Division) with 19 teams.

When the season ends the best teams will play play-offs (knock outs) for the European places and promotion/relegation. More about that later.

Promotion/relegation: Number 18 of the Eredivisie relegates directly and the champion of the first division takes there place in the Eredivisie. The numbers 16 and 17 of the Eredivisie are enrolled into play off games against the best teams from the first division. After a few knock out rounds the 2 winners go to the eredivisie.

Koninklijke Nederlandse Voetbal Bond(KNVB): The Royal Dutch Football Association. Organisor of the Dutch football, just like the FA in England. Website: KNVB

The Dutch National Team: One of the best teams in the world, better known as 'Oranje' (Orange).

Arena is a bit bigger than de kuip btw. Ajax desperately wanted it to be bigger so a few hundred extra seats were added in the design. I believe the difference is about 200 seats.

Utrecht & Fortuna Sittard info

I'm looking for information from Fortuna & FC Utrecht fans about the pre season games against Aberdeen on 24th & 24th July.
We need info on tickets, & most importantly, bars where football fans can get together for a few beers before & after the games with no trouble. Let's all :party
Tanghe, what can you tell us about the 3 team tournament with Dovo? are they a league team or an amateur team?
undefined

Dovo is an amatuer side from Veenendaal. The small tournament will be held at Dovo. You can drink at the tournament(clubhouse open including some mobile bars outside). No need to buy tickets in advance, you can buy them there. Unfortunatlty I wont be there as I am going on holiday that same day.

15.00 DOVO - ABERDEEN FC
16.00 ABERDEEN FC - FC UTRECHT
17.00 FC UTRECHT - DOVO

Lots of bars in Utrecht. Not really concetred in one area, but bars are everywhere. Mick O'Connels at 'Janskerkhof' has always got telly's on showing some football. No Dutch football bars tho, we dont really have those in Holland. The Utrecht lads mainly go to pubs as the "Karel de Stoute", "Zadelbar" etc.

Dovo got a very small ground(like pretty much every amatuer side). So it will be a few thousand people standing next to the pitch. These games are mainly for meeting all your mates, have a drink in the sun and see some footy aswell.

Hello guys,

I saw Ajax-Utrecht and to be honest very few players impressed. The Utrecht keeper had a few great saves, Tanghe seems to be a clever organization midfielder and the Frech defender (is he a left-back or a central defender?) also showed some interesting things.

Who are the team's best players at the moment?

Concerning Ajax, I'm sure they'll find their rhythm back in a few months, even if they lost Zlatan.

Our keeper is quite good yeah. Just a few years back he was in the army, serving in Kosovo and now our first goalie :)

Tanghe is very clever. He knows where to be, how to play at the right time, he is pure quality. The French defender Di Tommasi looks very promising aswell. Always goes forward. Also van de Haar our striker did well and vd Bergh our leftwinger is in the Dutch national team. And our rightback Cornellise is sound.

Over all we have some good players who allw ork very hard for the team. Noone plays for himself, but everyone fights for the club ad thats why we can rise to the occation and beat teams who have way more quality :USA_Blue
