Louis Saha has expressed his delight at being back amongst the goals as Manchester United cruised past West Brom in the Carling Cup.
The Frenchman's first goal since January helped smooth United's passage into the quarter finals of the competition.
After battling back from persistent injury problems, the former Fulham forward is ready to justify his £12.8 million transfer fee.
On the night that Old Trafford said a tearful farewell to George Best, Saha was just relieved to be back in the goalscoring groove.
"It was a very nice feeling," said the 27-year-old. "It was an emotional night tonight so it's great to win the game."
Saha is keeping his fingers crossed that his fitness concerns are now behind him.
"I hope so," he stated. "I think I've been training now for three weeks and I'm happy with my fitness.
"Obviously, I need games to get my confidence back to a year before - that's when I got injured and it started to go wrong for me.
"It was very frustrating, obviously. I'm very professional but it was a very hard time. I coped with it very well, I think.
"I have to think positively now. It's been hard and I just try to think positively.
"I've got to keep working hard and wait for my time."
United face Portsmouth on Saturday and their following Premiership fixture is against Everton, when Ruud van Nistelrooy is suspended.
Im glad he scored last night, he is likely to play upfront with Rooney against Pompey and a goal is just what he needed. I've always thought he was a good player and most people only judge him because he gets injuted a lot, just wait until he does or doesn't do the business on the pitch, then judge him.
:clap Saha
