Sir Alex Ferguson reckons Manchester United midfielder Darren Fletcher will become an "outstanding" player.
The Scotland international has been the subject of criticism from Old Trafford fans following a number of mediocre performances in the red shirt but played well in the vital 1-0 win over Chelsea, even heading the winning goal.
It was his first goal at The Theatre of Dreams and should enable the 21-year-old to kick on with The Red Devils.
"The only area we have to wait on Darren is his physique," explained Ferguson to Sky Sports News.
"He's a tall, thin boy. He's gangly and I think he's still got to get muscle formation.
"Once he gets that strength, he'll be an outstanding player."
A youthful United side were beaten 2-1 in a friendly at Burton Albion to mark the opening of The Pirelli Stadium.

World Class player.... the only question i have about him is: Will he be as good as Pele, or just Maradona?
Glad to see so many Man Utd fans agree, and appreciate him so much. :clap :bowing

he is not even scotland quality, yeah his movement off the ball is terrific according to walter smith but when hes got the ball all he does is lose possesion,i noticed it on saturday,he drove me up the wall but you cant judge a player on one performance but he hasnt impressed me,wouldnt be a surprise if he was playing in the championship next season,i dont think he will but thats the kind of standard he is i think personnally

Yet again, if you don't like him, don't post.
Fletcher is a United player, if their is an article on him, people will post it.
Your not forced into posting, so don't.

I do beleive that Fletcher was the next big thing out of our reserve's nd Fergie new this, and as he was out for almost 2 years Fegie is desperate to make this ad fullfil the potential he had, at the moment this looks unlikely, but maybe he's a late developer, and maybe he could turn out to be a quality player, it seems unlikely now, as i don't beleive he's good enough, but Fergie seems desperate to get what was so special out of the kid, and not give up on him

he was seriously injured for a season or so, so maybe he is just a couple of years behind full development, strength is one of the things he needs to work on and maybe in a few seasons he will grow n develop!

he needs a bit of agression and muscle, there's no doubting he is a fantastic passer of the ball, i get the feeling he was trying to be agressive in the chelski game did anyone else notice? if he can get these two characteristics he can then play next to a tough tackler like keano so his game can flourish, perhaps he is a late developer, never saw anything in lampard at 19-20 fletcher is a better player at his age then fat frank was, i'm willing to be patient, i know it'll get frustrating but hopefully it will be worth the wait and he'll fulfill his potential

So how long do people propose we wait for this talent to be fulfilled while other teams continue to strengthen?

Booser: After what Fergie said recently it appears that we are stuck with him BUT, to be fair, he said exactly the same about a kid who he had introduced to the first team all those years ago and he didn't turn out half bad, some kid called David Beckham, remember? And the press said the same about a kid who Busby played in the 60s, George Best. Too small, too skinny, can't hold or pass a ball, yadda yadda ............................

Fletcher! what a crap player, im sorry but he is useless. i say man u cash in on him now before his price decreases and sell him on to a club where he will improve like west ham. or at least put him on loan to a club where his confidence can build!

He's a good player. Probably would do a better job starting for a mid-tabled club. Not exactly United starting line-up quality, but a good as a back-up if they plan on keeping him.

If Fergie achieves his aim of body building Fletcher into more of a muscally (!!) man, we may see a change but, I cannot see how body building will make his passes any netter, because his passing accuracy is virtually non existent
Technically he is already outstanding, well he stands out.
