MONCHENGLADBACH, Oct 20 (SW) – Former Germany international defender Christian Ziege has decided to call time on his playing career after failing to recover from an ankle injury.

“The point is surely not far away when you have to say it makes no more sense,” the former Spurs and Liverpool player had admitted a few weeks ago, and the end of the road seems to have approached much quicker than Ziege’s fans would have hoped for, after the former international player officially announced his retirement from the beautiful game as a player.

"I'm very sad my career as a player is now over. I'm happy that all the ups and down linked to my various injuries, rehabilitation sessions are finally over,” admitted Ziege.

"I won domestic titles in both Germany and Italy, the UEFA Cup, the European Championship and was runner-up in the World Cup. There's not a lot more one can achieve in football,” he added.

Ziege had not been able to play in a competitive game since December of last year, after sustaining an ankle injury.

I dont love Ziege, but ending the career because of an injury was foreseeable and is ****e for a player. Maybe he will make a good coach.
Good luck for the future. I will sacrafice a goat to honor your career.
