He seems to be in great from this season-10 goals in 9 games for a struggling team (sorry Lindsey!).
I haven't seen much of this guy-is he any good ?
What type of player is he ?
Does he only score goals or does he also contribute in other ways ?

Difficult to say really. This season he is playing fantastically, but until the start of this season I would have classed him as nothing more than an average BL player. He is young, and certainly has talent, but I think you have to wait until he does these things over a period of time before we can make a real judgment.

I think the Turkish national team has two great products in Halil and his brother Hamit (who I believe still plays for Schalke?). Halil has come into his own this season, a real threat. I just wish Kaiserslautern would turn it around and follow their league leading striker to at the very least mid table.

And the sad thing is...they are both born in Germany. Same with Sahin  well, it's their decision

What would be nice for K-town would be to keep their players! It's too bad they are so in debt. and they sell off their good talents. Just think of Altintop, Klose, and Lincoln all still at Kaiserslautern! That would be a nice attacking trio, and I'm sure they'd be higher up in the table too.

Is that true? What a shame for Germany. You would think they would feel German if they were born there!

Is this for real? I can see the Turkish twins being born in Germany but was Klasnic as well? Why does it seemt that German born players prefer to play for another NT. This does not seem to happen to Holland and France as much!

Yes, Klasnić was born in Germany (Robert Kovač too).

That is a pitty. So these payers are the product of German systems and coaching. Soon players will realize that it will be easier to break into the German NT than breaking into another NT team.

I has to do with different mentalities. The Croats and Turkish immigrants are very patriotic and Kovac, Klasnic, Shain and the Altintops grew up in that communities. I don't blame them.
Did you see how Sahin gets treated in Turkey? Like a little god.
Fathi decided to play for Germany. Mario Gomez and Ioannis Masmanidis as well.
Players of Polish origin mostly decide to play for Germany too:
Podolski, Sinkiewicz, Klose, Trochowski

Alot of Turkish people living in Germany still think of themselves as Turkish-they speak Turkish.
There is even an organisation 2,000 people who want an independent Turkish state inside Germany.
It kinda pisses alot of Germans off-they way they kinda look down on Germany and promote Turkey to the full.I mean they cannot love Turkey that much if they left their beloved country.
Not all of course-alot of Turkish people are very nice people and they integrate well into German culture.

I have kind of suspected that. I can totally understand the connection with their homeland but I would have expected the tie gets weaker with every generation - at least that's what happens in the US.

I was sititng in a cafe in Saarbrucken and I thought I was in Turkey..Turkish people, speaking Turkish, Turkish flags and tops..
I remember a Dortmund-Galatasarey game a few years back when Skibbe was coach and 2/3 of the stadium was Turkish or even the euro 2000 game in Munich Ger-Tur under Ribbech and 3/4 of the ground was Turkish...

So hos does this really work? Do those players have dual citizenships? Or do they take their own homeland's citizenship and are only offered the German one once everyone sees their footballing potential? I think that makes a big difference is selecting who to play for. If you are born there but not considered a citizen, it is only natural not too feel German.

Its very difficult to get dual nationality in Germany as the Germans won't allow it. Agree with what is said about Turks, they still consider themselves Turkish despite having been born here, and I can understand it totally.
I am English and live in Germany, my daughter was born here and will grow up speaking both languages and until her 21st birthday she will have dual nationality as my wife is German. Will make sure that she supports England though and not Germany!!
Back to Altintop, seems he is going to Scheisse 04. I hope and believe he will be third successive free transfer striker for the smellies to be great before they sign and then absolutely bloody useless when they put on that dirty blue shirt (see Ailton, Kuranyi!!).

The laws have changed. It's easier now to gain German citizenship.
There are quite a few players of Turkish origin playing for the youth national teams.

Its easier for them to get the citizenship, but they have to give up their old one (if they are over 21 years of age), fact is there are so many Turks in Germany that its easier for them to keep their Turkish identity than with other immigrants.
Look at the Turkish national team - Sahin, the two Altintops and that other bloke who used to play for Leverkusen and now plays for Hertha (for some strange reason I cant remember his name - begins with a B) all born in Germany but play for Turkey! The Turks must be laughing their socks off!
