Borussia Monchengladbach's Christian Ziege is considering retirement after failing to fully recover from persistent ankle problems.
Ziege has been plagued by the problem for so long that he has all-but given up of finding a long-term solution.
This has left the former Middlesbrough and Tottenham star considering quitting the game.
"I cannot imagine that any other treatment that is going to work," Ziege told Kicker.
"The situation cannot remain like this forever." Ziege has played just 13 times for Gladbach since arriving from Spurs in 2004.
