yeah right mccarthy was always getting suspended last season (with good reason most times)
and what about that year that deco got a 3 match ban for the smallest reason (i cant remember the exact incident), and that would mean he would miss the benfica game. this was when mourinho was there, and the whole world said deco should only get a 1match ban-if that, and in the end the fpf had to change the ban to a 2 match ban. even camacho at the time said that deco should play
and petit should be banned for 3 games and fined for that challenge, he could have done targino a huge injury (unlike mccarthy who elbows people, but doesnt try to injure them for months)

dnt think their is too much to worry about from those two players... manuel fernandes has his days but he can be held by defenders...and petit, hes not even good, he just is ultra aggresice which is why he gets as many cards as he does and in a heated affair it wont take long from teh ref to start watchin him closely

last season we played in 5 derbies 3 against Sporting 2 against Porto we lost to Sporting and beat them twice and we tied Porto twice last season

Nelson----Luisao--------R.Rocha------Leo
----------Petit----------M.Fernandes-----
Karagounis--------------------------Simao
---------------Miccoli---------------------

whats so funny about it?? he never started a game this season, so why would he do it against Porto? nuno and miccoli are ok, than mantorras can sub one of them if they are not playing well, but it gotta be before the 65 mins because koeman always plays him for only 10 mins, he needs to play more and than mybe become a starter
MisterX
Oct 10 2005, 07:40 PM
I think he found it funny because he knows Koeman is most likely to use him for only 10 minutes anyway (as you said) rather than actually giving him a proper chance. If Benfica is down and they need a goal then he should be brought in before 65 mins for sure. However don't count on Koeman to realize this.

LFV also said that if Benfica didn't get 300 thousand more associates until October he'd leave and he's still there.
Like Pimenta Machado said once: "No futebol, o que hoje é mentira amanhã é verdade."

I don't condone what Bruno Alves did but Benfica players have the habit of being aggressive to their opponents when they get fouled. If Nuno Gomes didn't react like he did that wouldn't happen.
It's like they're the only players in the league who can't suffer fouls.
When they played played against ManU, Juventus and Chelsea they got fouled but kept their mouths shut.

If Sonkaya played we wouldn't lose this and the Artmedia match. I think this is probably the first time I've seen someone say they preferred Sonkaya to Bosingwa. I might have disagreed with you before but I'm definately not now. Sonkaya now that I think about it didn't really do bad this season. He was alright actually though I did expect more from a Turkish international RB. Maybe he just needs to adjust to the league? I'm definately going to say stick with Sonkaya for now. Bosingwa should go back to being a CM/DM. Awful. No way he should be selected as starting RB after that.

man, in derbys there's always alot of agressivity...and against rivals they tend to not take any **** from nobody. when ricardo costa "punched" simão, simão just went to him and sais "prakek e isso caralho??!!"...not agressive at all...yet R.Costa just turned his back on him. So as you can see it's not just benfica, it's every club that has a big rivalry.

Another reason why Porto lost was from their set pieces. Did anyone see the corners Peixoto was producing? They were all horrible yet no one stepped up to take the corners. Striker Nuno Gomes scored twice to give champions Benfica a 2-0 victory at Porto on Saturday and their first success on the northern club's ground in 14 years.
Benfica, recovering from their worst-ever start to a season, moved up four places to fourth in the Premier League.
They are now just a point behind Porto, who stay on 14 after their first defeat of the season and their first at home to Benfica since April 1991.
Leaders Braga stay two points clear following a 2-1 win at Rio Ave on Friday, when Nacional Madeira moved up to second on 15 points after preserving their unbeaten start to the season with a goalless draw at Vitoria Guimaraes.
Sporting are fifth with 12 points but can move into second place with a home victory over Academica on Sunday.
Nuno Gomes put Benfica in front after 57 minutes at the Dragao stadium with a glancing header and doubled their lead seven minutes later with a close range shot after taking advantage of a mistake by Porto defender Ricardo Costa.
The double strike took Nuno Gomes's tally to seven goals at the top of the Premier League scoring charts.
Both teams finished with 10 men after Porto defender Bruno Alves was sent off for a tackle on Nuno Gomes on 81 minutes and Benfica's Brazilian defender Leo was given his marching orders for two bookable offences four minutes later.
The match was dubbed "The Dutch Classic" because both coaches are from the Netherlands and Benfica's win gave Ronald Koeman his seventh victory over Porto's Co Adriaanse in nine league games with the other two matches drawn

LUCÍLIO BAPTISTA (8)
Muito boa arbitragem, árbitros auxiliares incluídos. Segurança disciplinar, impecáveis decisões técnicas.
TRIBUNAL O JOGO
Apenas erros disciplinares
O CASO
81' Bruno Alves entra sobre Nuno Gomes e logo a seguir, perante a reacção do avançado do Benfica, responde, encostando-lhe a cabeça. Cartão vermelho imediatamente mostrado. Julgamento correcto do árbitro?
JORGE COROADO
BEM
Correctíssima a acção do árbitro.
OUTROS CASOS
30' É bem mostrado o cartão amarelo a Manuel Fernandes?
Merecido?
86' Léo volta a rasteirar o extremo portista. O segundo amarelo é justo?
JORGE COROADO
BEM
Podemos atribuir-lhe o prémio do azar neste jogo.
ROSA SANTOS
BEM
Decisão correcta do árbitro.
MAL
i don't even need to comment

Poor Porto. :laugh I know that I have said before that Co was the main for Porto when it comes to domestic competition but wasn't for European competition. However now I don't think he's the man for them at all to carry the team forward. I still think Koeman sucks though but personally I think Koeman now is doing a better job for Benfica considering Benfica is better in Europe now AND they are only one point behind Porto domestically. So I'll give Koeman that much. He has improved but I still don't think he's the man yet. He needs to show me more for me to have confidence in him.
Personally I think that Co needs to axe the 4-3-3 setup and go with 4-4-2. I think it could work better. I know that I was keen on Ricardo Costa... to the point of even thinking he warranted a NT callup but after that game I'm not happy with him. Baia I think could still do well if he has a competent defense, C.Peixoto was doing so well but just had this lackluster game (however he certaintly was far from worst man on pitch. His game wasn't that bad), Put Quaresma in instead of Alan and take out Diego in favour of Lisandro and play 4-4-2.

hurley ive noticed you are doing your best to stick by adriaanse, and normally i try to stick by the manager, but we're fvcked unless he stops being so stubborn
adriaanse always says "i play my way, and dont change for anybody"
thats stupid, even mourinho at chelsea, or rijaard at barca, with 2 of the best teams in the world, they change tactics depending on who they play
adriaanse also seems to choose his team by chance, in pre season he played emanuel, meireles, postiga, and they all got injured, and he had to replace them and now he wont bring them back into the team
he plays alan who miss places 70% of his passes
he doesnt play any dmc
he plays players bosingwa, peixoto, lucho, ibson, jorginho, lisandro, all out of position
and since the start of the season i have notcied when we get hit on the counter its usually 2 on 2
if we keep playing like this then we are going nowhere
im just keeping my mouth shut for the next 2 games to see what happens
but things dont look good
theirs a funny line...u guys won and ur still blamin the refs usually this is only when u guys lose... which has been pretty common in the past 14 years...
I blame the referee in each game they rob us, no matter if we win or lose, in he last decades since Porto has Pinto ad Costa as chairman we have reasons to complain, because every person in Portugal know that he was/is corrupt and bribed referees, there are prooves about that, referees already said that, but our courts are also corrupt so he is free to continue as Porto's president, only in our country these things happen, like Fatima Felgueiras stole money, and escaped to brazil, is now Felgueiras' city president, or like Valentim Loureiro in Gondomar/Boavista.

hurley ive noticed you are doing your best to stick by adriaanse, and normally i try to stick by the manager, but we're fvcked unless he stops being so stubborn
adriaanse always says "i play my way, and dont change for anybody"
thats stupid, even mourinho at chelsea, or rijaard at barca, with 2 of the best teams in the world, they change tactics depending on who they play
adriaanse also seems to choose his team by chance, in pre season he played emanuel, meireles, postiga, and they all got injured, and he had to replace them and now he wont bring them back into the team
he plays alan who miss places 70% of his passes
he doesnt play any dmc

I acknowledge all the mistakes Adriaanse has been doing, but three defeats (that could have gone either way) against decent opposition and two ties at two of the toughest places in the league are not enough to fire a coach, especially when it's the 4th we have in a year and three months.
Things aren't as bad as they seem man, our problems can easily be solved, if you and I are able to notice where they are and how to fix them, I'm sure that a professional coach with twenty years of experience can do it too.

I didn't know that Portugal was the only country on earth where corruption exists and it's not punished.

You're being naive man, there's corruption in every developed country in the world and the authorities (which are corrupt aswell) know it.

yeat they don't come to TV and say what happened, and nothing happens like here. i know there are corruption everywhere but not so well known like Portugal, it's a shame what's happening, the apito dourado case started how many years ago? how many people are arrested because of that? none, look the casa pia case even Bibi is going out of the jale :ninja

slow down a minute their DvA... their have been no charges laid against any member of Porto's excecutive staff, including PDC, God bless him. and their is actually no proof of any porto staff doing anything illegal. But if we quickly look to Benito Mussolini in Italy we look at a dictator who favoured AC Milan, this club was an unstopalbe power house in Italy and abroad in these days... and do u know why??? Well if u guessed because it was favoured by the countries dictator then u were right.
Which reminds me of another dictator named Antonio Salazar. In case u were wondering he was the dictator of portugal up til the 70's. Can u guess what his favorite team was??? If u guessed Benfica u are once again right. What i am trying to say is that u won cuz the communist dictator of the country was a fan of your club, and even Eusebio has talked about his rules, such as how he wouldnt let him leave the club for Juventus, even though he wanted to go.
"Juventus came for me when I was 19. After the World Cup, Inter made a big offer, one which would have made me the highest-paid player in the world. And yet I was not allowed to move. Why? Salazar was not my father and he certainly was not my mother. What gave him the right? The truth was that he was my slavemaster, just as he was the slavemaster of the entire country." -Eusebio

Eusebio had an actual big reason to cry,did you not see the game back in 66?We were robbed in that game and Eusebio had every right to cry just as much as the rest of the country did during that match he HAD a reason. lisandro cried because this is his big chance, and every time he gets his chance he seems to get injured
if you watch the match again, we were the team in control until about the 20th minute
and its no coincidence that in the 20th minute lisandro got injured and subbed
he was playing really well i think

btw, 2 things that arent really being mentioned:
a) why was petit playing? he should have been banned after his horror tackle last week
b) karagounis was lucky to have stayed on the field, the fifa rules clearly state a tackle frrom behind with no intention of palying the ball as a direct red

First of all Portugal was never under Communism. Salazar was a traditional right-wing fascist dictator. Also there is no proof that Benfica was "his" team. He was a :censored for not letting Eusebio go like that but that's not proof that he did that because he was a Benfica fan. He wanted Portugal's greatest star to remain in Portugal. Nothing more, nothing less. Brazil was doing the same **** with Pele in Santos... they considered him a "national treasure" so that he wouldn't leave the nation for a big european club.

salazar was a lisbon fan
he probably supported both sporting and benfica
but i think he leaned toward benfica
i doubt salazar was an avid football fan, he was more interested in other things
most dictators used football to be more popular, such as hitler, and mussolini, but most didnt give a feck about the sport
