All three should be able to qualify easily.

I Agree Dandy, the top three teams in each group are through to the next round, so if these three teams can't make it maybe it's time to close up shop!

Under this format each team plays each other once with two home and two away games, so the draw can give you good or weak teams away or at home making things interesting... here's how it breaks down;

Game day one (Oct. 20)

Hamburg away to CSKA Sofia
Hertha away to Halmstad
Stuttgart away to Rennes

Game day two (Nov. 3)

Hamburg home to Viking
Stuttgart home to Shakhtar

Game day three (Nov. 24)

Hamburg away to Monaco
Hertha home to Lens
Stuttgart away to PAOK

Game day four (Nov. 30 & Dec. 1)
Hertha away to Sampdoria

Game day five (Dec. 14 & 15)
Hamburg home to Slavia
Hertha home to Steaua
Stuttgart home to Rapid

Let me do a prediction you all make me responsible for.

I say Hamburg and Hertha will go through. But I think Stuttgart wont make it.
I have the feeling after seeing this round-draw that it will be not good for Stuttgart (sorry Timonator... where are you btw).

Take my word, and if I am wrong bring this thread up again and make fun of me :drinkbeer

Timo will be pissed off to hear your lack of faith, but maybe by the time he gets back it'll be all over but the cryin'!:ninja

Was that your opinion before or after Bayer got bounced?:woot

Seriously I like this "second tier" tournie, I don't know how it is for every country but for Germany it gives the mid-upper table teams a crack at Europe the following year. Case in point... Hamburg finished 8th last year but put together a much better team this year. Through the intertoto cup they scooped a spot in the UEFA cup and now have the chance to make some noise in Europe! I think it would be a real shame for a club such as Hamburg (who has a great team this year and is giving Bayern a run for it's money) not to play in Europe this year. Another plus to this tournie is the smaller eastern European clubs are in it, this adds a bit more flavor then always facing the same "big" clubs every year! That's just my opinion but to each his own eh.

The one thing this tournament has made obvious is that Bayer Leverkusen sucks.

Hmm...I'm disappointed Gerry :nono you should have a little faith! :USA_Blue *supportsgladbachtoo:cool:D* we will go through the group stage, b/c we have Timo in goal! :cool

We're in a hard group. Donezk beat Schalke last year and kicked them out, Stade Rennes is very dangerous, and I hope Alex Frei won't score against us :ninja I think he's still mad b/c he wanted to come. We were interested in him, but then Trap came and signed Tomasson.

3 teams will make it into the next round, right?

Anyway, I'm not afraid :drinkbeer :cool :USA_Blue

AL, me and my family moved to a new house, so I have no I-net connection :( it makes me sick!!!) Think I'll have one in 3 or 4 days :( i m at school right now.

T-man I knew when 5 days went by without a post something was up!
VfB will make it past the group stage, the top three do go through and Stuttgart will be one of them.

and today so far...
Halmstad 0 - 1 Hertha BSC FT

Trounced! From how I followed the game, there seems to be something different in this Hertha team. After the 3-0 drubbing, we seem to have snapped back to reality that we need to keep fighting and proove that're we're a top 5 BL team.

The team attacked the whole game and Halmstad seemed to be totally outplayed, except for their exceptional keeper.

Stuttgart win, with real trappatoni style, with two goals in the last few minutes. Timo will be delighted.

Well, I am :cool and we did play better. there weren't many wrong passes the defense was solid. though I'm still not happy on how we play forward :nono We should start spending our money for an AM.

My highlight today: Mario Carevic played a few minutes and he seems like a good player. Hard to seperate from the ball and a good technique, but he needs match practice :USA_Blue
