LEIPZIG, Germany (AFP) - Germany manager Jurgen Klinsmann has vowed to consult football's governing bodies to prevent striker Mike Hanke from being suspended for the opening match of the 2006 World Cup.
Under FIFA legislation Hanke will miss the World Cup opener in Munich on May 9 after his dismissal in Germany's 4-3 win over Mexico in Wednesday's Confederations Cup third-place play-off.
"Fair enough the referee made the decision but we will protest against Mike Hanke being suspended for the first World Cup match," insisted Klinsmann. "We will speak with the German Football Federation (DFB) and FIFA about this."
Hanke received a straight red card in the 54th minute for a late tackle on Carlos Salicido and the suspension will carry over to the World Cup and could even amount to two or three matches.
The forward, who will join VfL Wolfsburg from Schalke 04 in the summer, is a fringe player in the German squad having made the step up from the Under-21 set-up.

Didnt even know the suspension would carry to the World Cup. I think it's only fair that it is dropped.
Maybe make the suspension count for the next friendly?

That was a late hit with no ill will... Should have been a yellow! The ref in that game sucked ass bad, he handed out twice as many fouls to Germany, now come on! You go Klins.. :drinkbeer

Looks like Hanke booked his place in the German squad for WC06!

Well I don't think so, but Klinsi does not want to take any personnel risk, i.e injuries and the likes could limit his strikers choice for the first game.

In my opinion, Hanke was the best German player in the 1st half against Mexico. He hit the crossbar, and his passing and touches were superb. I saw him play at the under 21 level and he looks like a very good prospect for Germany.
Hanke seems to be a complete player who can do everything well.
I hope Klinsmann gets his wish, and Podolski and Hanke are up front for Germany next year. The other strikers in the squad for WC 2006 should be 2 from Kuranyi, Klose and Lauth.

Yep, i agree with Valmiki. I think Hanke has a chances of being our third striker, and being an important player for the NT.

he will be included next year. and yes he is a very talented striker, always reminds me of the young Klinsmann. unless Neuville, Delura, Hunt or Lauth suddenly perform extremely well next season, he may even make some appearances in next year WM!(Asamoah, Klose, Podolski, Kuranyi althogh may occupy 95% of our strikers' playing time)

I was impressed by Mike Hanke performances, he is more reliable then Kuranyi upfront. He got better skills in dribbling, shooting then Kuranyi!!!!
He and Podolski will be a powerful forward upfront.
