21.06.2005:
Christian Müller strikes again

http://www.herthabsc.de/uploads/pics/mueller_1.jpg

Berlin - Christian Müller can't stand to hear any more questions about his well-being. The 21-year old has been asked too often in the last seven months how he is feeling and when he will be able to take his old place. "The question gets on my nerves", says Müller in the latest issue of kicker. The soccer magazine interviewed him regarding his injury and rehabilitation for their Monday issue (20.6.).

And what he says in the interview will surely be cheering to coach Falko Götz and the Hertha fans. Müller's shin and splint bones have healed well after being broken, the painful rehabilitation process has been completed, and last season's shooting star has started jogging again. "I'll be there for the start of training on June 27", says Müller. And if everything goes according to plan, he could be ready to play in two months.

"The hard work is worth it!"

But first Müller will be taking a short vacation - one week in Turkey to relax and regain some power. And power is exactly what he needs, since he wants to compete with new acquisition Ellery Cairo in the new season. "He’ll see that I’m also a good player", says Müller, "That will be an exciting duel!"

The youngster is certainly not lacking in motivation. Old video material provides further inspiration: "I watch videos at home of my German League goals and I think: That's what you want to get back to, all the hard work is worth it for that!" Of course, herthabsc.de and all the fans wish the 21-year old a good recovery!

Controversial Benny procession

Berliner Kurier

Berlin - The procession in memory of Benny is in danger! On May 28, Hertha fan Benny Bienert dies at the age of only twenty-two after a long fight against leukemia. His fan club, "The Harlequins", want to organize a procession of cars in Benny’s memory on Saturday (June 25), starting at 11:30 A.M. from Sportforum Hohenschönhausen and proceeding via the B1 highway to Benny’s hometown of Hennickendorf (near Straußberg).

The Harlequins’ club president, Kay Bernstein, says however, "The city hall has turned down our request for a police escort, even after we appealed the decision. Now we’re going to the Higher Administrative Court." The Harlequins are expecting the participation of about 150 cars from all over Germany.

It's horrible. I'm not a fan of this idea, but the rumours now are saying that we get Aloisi for this upcoming season, but in the meantime we're trying to get Santa Cruz on a pre-contract for 2006-2007.

Neuer Vertrag: Einmal Hertha, immer Hertha
Berliner Morgenpost

Erstmals in seinem Leben.

---------------------------------------------------

I feel bad for him. I think Hertha are treating him like **** and he would still be an stand-out substitute for our defense, but with youngsters also wanting to get their break in the defense, his chances are pretty much nil. Thanks for all you've done for our club Schmidt and I remember our first CL campaign pretty clearly and you stand out. :clap

Hertha target Santa Cruz
by Thomas Zeh - created on 23 Jun 2005

Hertha Berlin coach Falko Gotz stressed that Bayern Munich’s unsettled Roque Santa Cruz is his prime target in the summer transfer market.

Hertha have been linked with a couple of high-profile names, including Rennes’ Alexander Frei and Trabzonspor’s Faith Tekke, in the past weeks as their search for a new striker continues, but Gotz has now made it clear that he prefers to sign the talented Paraguay international.

Talks with the 23-year-old have already taken place and Gotz is positive he can land his man after agreeing personal terms with the forward.

"Santa Cruz has made up his mind and he wants to join us while we want him. I am confident that the transfer will be completed," Gotz told Kicker.

The tall forward joined Bayern six years ago from Olimpia de Asuncion, but has failed to live up to expectations with his Bayern career marred by persistent injury worries and private tragedies.

Just when Santa Cruz appeared to be ready to break into Felix Magath’s starting formation earlier this year, he rushed back to Paraguay in order to support his parents after his younger brother died in a car crash.

The eternal talent has now grown increasingly frustrated about his prospects at the Allianz Arena and with Roy Makaay, Claudio Pizarro and youngster Paolo Guerrero all above him in the pecking order, he seems determined to continue his career elsewhere.

Bayern have as yet failed to clarify whether or not they are willing to release the youngster from his contract, which is set to run another 12 months, and it remains to be seen if Magath wants to start the new season with only three strikers as Alex Zickler (Salzburg) and Vahid Hashemian (Hannover) have already left the club.

Excellent.

Rummenigge blocks exits
by Chris Ives - created on 24 Jun 2005

Bayern Munich boss Karl Heinz Rummenigge has said that neither Willy Sagnol nor Roque Santa Cruz will be leaving the club this summer.

Speaking in an interview with Bild, Rummenigge confirmed that he was not prepared to let Valencia target Sagnol leave the Allianz Arena.

"There has been an unofficial enquiry, but we will not be selling him for all the money in the world," he emphasised.

"Uli Hoeness phoned him from his holiday. We want to extend his contract with us," he added.

Meanwhile Roque Santa Cruz’s reported move to Bundesliga rivals Hertha Berlin looks likely to fall through after Bayern coach Felix Magath revealed he features in his plans for the coming season.

"We already have our squad for the coming season and it is just as Felix Magath wanted," explained Rummenigge. "We will neither be letting any more players go nor buying any more new ones."

-------------------------------------------------------

What? So he can rot on your bench for another season and then leave on a free? Your team is managed by a bunch of ******* idiots. We're offering you money now for a player that actually wants to leave and Rummenigge comes out with the classic "Yea, he features in our plans for next season" excuse. Wasn't that line used last summer too? And the year before that?

**** off. Here's hoping Schalke takes the title from you next season, you get knocked out of the CL nice and early and Magath gets his ass fired. Pissants.

Neuer Marcelinho-Skandal! Zeitung berichtet
Hertha-Star schlug Disco-
Besucher drei Zähne aus

Olé, Marcelinho! Oje, Marcelinho!

TURKISH INTERNATIONAL TO LEAVE THE CLUB

Ilhan Mansiz to leave Hertha

The short stay of the Turkish international Ilhan Mansiz at Hertha is over. The club has announced that it will terminate his contract with immediate effect. Mansiz joined the capital city club during the winter break and received a provisional contract. "We had agreed to make a final decision on him after the pre-season prepapration,“ said the Hertha manager Dieter Hoeneß.

The player however, has changed his mind and demanded an immediate contract from Hertha.

No deal

Hoeneß again: "We couldn’t do that and we didn’t want to. After all, Mansiz was only 60% fit.“ Hoeneß is disappointed with the attitude of the player: "Obviously we are disappointed with the situation. We tried very hard to make him happy at the club. A player cannot however just change his mind just like that,“ said the Hertha manager.

HERTHA STOCKS UP ON TALENT

New faces

The search for a new striker goes on at Hertha. On Monday though, there were some new faces on the training complex as the players reported back for training after the summer break. Ellery Cairo (26) came from recently-relegated Freiburg, it is hoped that he can replace Billy Reina on the right wing and create pressure from that position.

New keeper

The second new face on the Hertha block belongs to the goalkeeper Kevin Stuhr-Ellegaard (22), who has joined the capital city club from the English side Manchester City. He has been brought in to up the fight for a regular first team spot among the club’s other two keepers Gerhard Tremmel and Christian Fiedler. Coach Falko Götz likes what he has so far seen from his new keeper and of course Cairo: "Ellery showed what he is capable of during his first training session at Hertha. Kevin was very impressive during his trial here,” revealed the Hertha coach.

Talented trio

Three talented youngsters also showed what they could do as training resumed. Kevin Boateng (18), Pascal Bieler (19) and Christopher Samba (21) have all been called up from the amateur side, to gain experience in the first team squad. Bieler trained with the pros last season, at least during the pre-season period. The defensive all-rounder is a real alternative for the left hand side of defence. Boateng is being tipped to become a real number six…a defensive midfielder.

The right attitude

Christopher Samba joined Hertha during the winter break and has been impressive playing fort he regional league side. The tall Congo-born midfielder is strong in the tackle and dangerous going forward. He has scored 3 times in 16 matches so far: "Christopher is showing that he is up fort he challenge and I like that, " praised Falko Götz.

Podolskis Berater Norbert Pflippen sagt Nein: "Wir stehen beim 1. FC Köln im Wort. Lukas wechselt jetzt nicht. Sonst will ich tot umfallen."

Alright, let's update this ****er.

14.11.2005:
Mixed fortunes for Hertha internationals

Hertha’s internationals had mixed fortunes on their travels at the weekend. In six matches featuring Hertha players, there were two victories, one draw and three defeats.

Rafael opens the scoring

The first Hertha players to play for their country were the German under-21s Malik Fathi and Nando Rafael. They ran out the 2-0 winners in their opening EURO 2006 play off clash against the Czech Republic. The second leg will be played in Leverkusen on Tuesday 15.11.05. Nando Rafael grabbed the crucial first goal for the Germans after 35 minutes. Werder Bremen’s Christian Schulz scored the second three minutes from time.

Germans do well

Arne Friedrich and the German national team got a creditable 0-0 draw away to France in a match that the Germans could have won had luck been on their side. The side under Jürgen Klinsmann put in a much improved performance after recent poor results.

Bastürk and co. have it all to do

Hertha’s midfield dynamo Yildiray Bastürk and Turkey have it all to do, after Turkey lost their play off opener 0-2 away to Switzerland. Bastürk was unable to play because of a knee injury. The second leg will be played on Wednesday (16.11.).

Holland lose to Italy

Italy recorded a surprising win in Holland, despite the fact that the home side took the lead during the first half. Injury depleted Holland lost 1-3 in the Amsterdam Arena. Hertha’s Ellery Cairo called up fort he first time did not get a game.

Croatia lose in Portugal

Portugal got the better of Croatia in a friendly played in Lisbon, running out the 2-0 winners, thanks to goals by Petit and Pauleta. Hertha’s Croatian duo Joe Simunic and Niko Kovac played, but Kovac was taken off at half time..

Danish delight

Hertha’s Danish under-23 keeper Kevin Stuhr Ellegaard and his side can look forward to their second leg tie on Wednesday. The Danes beat Russia 1-0 in their own back yard and are now poised to go through to the finals.

----------------------------------------

Gilberto is still injured...

Gilberto’s misery

Kurier

Just when he will return to first team action is written in the stars: "I can’t imagine him making the game in Dortmund ", reckons the Hertha coach Falko Götz, as he was asked about the current situation regarding his Brazilian defensive midfielder Gilberto: "I will start thinking about him when he is 100% fit again and not before."

Gilberto is however making progress. Physio Thomas Sennewald: "We are working on building up his muscles and on his coordination."

Gilberto will be able to jog again in one week’s time at the earliest. Sennewald: "We need to be patient."

-----------------------------------

Dejagah return

Kurier

Hertha’s young striker Ashkan Dejagah has had a turbulent time of things so far this season to say the least. First of all he picked us a serious injury then he was banned for four matches. Now though, he is fit again and will play for the Hertha amateur side in the home game against Wuppertaler SV in the amateur stadium on Saturday afternoon.

---------------------------------------

EURO 2006 ACTION

Fahti: On the way!

Nando, Malik and co. almost there!

The German under-21 side (with the Hertha stars Rafael and Fahti), planned to extend their impressive unbeaten run to 13 games away to the Czech Republic in their first leg qualifier, in an attempt to qualify for the EURO 2006, but as is so often the case in the beautiful game, things turned out very differently, despite the fact that Germany won the match 2-0, the home side can count themselves desperately unlucky, because they were for most parts of the game the better side, but failed to convert their multitude of chances.

Home side threatens

On 4 minutes, the VfL Bochum striker Trojan shaved the German crossbar with a fine effort from some 20 metres out. Three minutes later, the Bochum player initiated a dangerous counter attach which saw Jirsak foiled by Germany’s best player on the night, Bayern Munich’s second string keeper Rensing.

Rensing on top

The Germans were shaky at the back and so it was no surprise as the Slavia Prague player Petrzela found himself one on one with Rensing, only to be foiled by the German keeper on 16 minutes. Only 3 minutes later, Sverkos latched onto a through ball from Jirsak, the Gladbach striker could only watch in agony, as his shot missed the target. Until that point there was nothing of note on show from Germany. It was all the more surprising then, as the visitors took the lead against the run of play on 35 minutes.

Nando breaks deadlock!

Nürnberg’s Kießling played in the Hertha’s Angolan-born striker Nando Rafael, who broke through down the left, before blasting the ball home under the underside of the crossbar to give the visitors the lead. The home side had a gilt edged opportunity to equalise 6 minutes before half time, but Sverkos blasted over with only Rensing to beat. Moments later, Dortmund’s Odonkor missed the target so the Germans went into the break with a slender (and fortunate) one goal lead.

Nando nearly there...

The first chance of the second half fell to the Germans (51.), as Odonkor broke down the right and fed Rafael (racing in at the far post) with a pinpoint cross. The Hertha striker however, missed the target because Kaufman cleared in the nick of time after the home keeper had flapped at the cross. Germany was able to take the pace out of the game, although the Czechs were always a danger. On 66 minutes Sverkos failed to beat Rensing from a promising position.

All-change

After 75 minutes, the Germany coach Dieter Eilts brought on HSV’s midfield dynamo Piotr Trochowski for the Wolfsburg striker Mike Hanke, who had been shown a yellow card earlier in the game. The home side launched several attacks on the German defence, but all to no avail. The defence survived several scares but held firm. Then out of the blue, the young Werder Bremen defender Schulz put the game beyond the home side 4 minutes from time, as he converted a superb cross from Trochowski.

Germany on top

The German under-21 side has put themselves in the driving seat fort he second leg tie which will be played in Leverkusen on Tuesday. It must be said that the Czechs were the better side over the 90 minutes, so they will have to be watchful if they are to qualify for the EURO 2006 next year. On the other hand, Dieter Eilts and co. are now unbeaten in 13 matches, let us just hope that it won’t be 13, unlucky for some…

The second leg will be played on Tuesday in Leverkusen (15.11.05) and will be shown live on Eurosport.

Match details:

Czech Republic: Grigar - Kaufman, Latka, R. Hubnik, Kadlec - Husek, Petrzela, Jirsak, Trojan - Fort, Sverkos

AFC Rapid Bucuresti continued the fine form which saw them seal their progress to the UEFA Cup knockout stages, taking a significant step towards the last 16 with an impressive 1-0 victory against nine-man Hertha BSC Berlin.

Negru penalty
Valentin Marian Negru scored the only goal from the penalty spot with 22 minutes remaining, after Daniel Niculae had been brought down by Alexander Madlung. The home team fought back but their hopes were all but ended within six minutes when midfielder Kevin-Prince Boateng was dismissed after a reckless challenge on Emil Dica. They were then reduced to nine players five minutes before full time when Alexander Madlung saw red for a deliberate handball.

Maftei marvels
The dismissals brought a cloudy end to a match that had started reasonably brightly for Falko Götz's team, as they sought their first win since early December. After a cagey opening spell Boateng saw a 16th-minute effort blocked by Rapid captain Vasile Maftei, and the impressive centre-back again rescued his side later in the half, diverting Marcelinho's close-range effort wide. Even when they did find a way past Rapid’s obdurate defence, the home team discovered Danut Coman in fine fettle and Václav Svěrkoš' header just before half-time forced a good save from the experienced goalkeeper.

Coman saves
Coman further distinguished himself three minutes after the restart with an acrobatic tip-over to deny Arne Friedrich's powerful header. And that was to prove the last clear-cut chance for the Bundesliga outfit as Rapid grew in strength, eventually taking the lead when Negru blasted a penalty past Christian Fiedler to silence the Olympiastadion. Coman was called upon to twice deny Christopher Veljeany late on and with Boateng and Madlung’s dismissals ruling them out of the return, Rapid have reason to be confident ahead of the second leg in Romania next Thursday.

Oh well Hertha just has to bring it in the away leg!:nono

A goal in each half from Marko Pantelić and Yıldıray Baştürk took Hertha BSC Berlin through to the second qualifying round of the UEFA Cup at FC Moskva's expense. The two sides had played out a goalless draw in the first leg of their UEFA Intertoto Cup third-round tie last week, so Moskva advanced 2-0 on aggregate.

Hertha press
Moskva coach Leonid Slutski started with his regular striking pair Hector Bracamonte and Dmitri Kirichenko on the bench and it was Hertha who seized the initiative. Despite being without the influential Marcelinho, they created a number of chances early on and Ellery Cairo, Andreas Neuendorf and Dick van Burik all shot wide from good positions. The hosts struggled to settle into the match and had their first and only shot before the break on 17 minutes. Striker Dmitri Golubov attempted a volley off Petr Bystrov's cross, but missed the target.

Pantelić scores
Hertha went ahead on 25 minutes, Cairo crossing from the right to Pantelić who chested the ball down before releasing a powerful drive from 11 metres. With Moskva now needing to score twice to advance, Kirichenko, Bracamonte and Sergei Semak were all introduced after the break and the Russian club did manage to create a number of scoring chances. First Roman Adamov narrowly failed to connect to Damian Gorawski's low cross then Kirichenko headed over. Hertha hung on then made sure of victory in the final minute when Baştürk struck on the break.

Hertha BSC Berlin are to sign Christian Giménez from fellow UEFA Cup hopefuls Olympique de Marseille.

Loan deal
The Argentinian forward, 31, will move to the Bundesliga club on a one-year loan with the option of a permanent transfer. Giménez has already passed a medical in the German capital, bringing to an end a one-season stay in the south of France, where he scored on his debut last August but then failed to register in his next 20 league games. He had previously spent four successful campaigns at FC Basel 1893, with an overall record of 93 goals in 123 Swiss top-flight matches.

Should be a real treat for Hertha if Gimenez finds the form he had at Basel. The club needs a forward especially after losing Marcelinho.

The new kit from Nike seems to be causing quite a stir with Hertha fans. Most prominently, the "change" of the emblem, from the flag to the eagle.

From herthabsc.de: "To make things perfectly clear, the club never intended to replace the club logo with the flag with the eagle logo. The eagle logo has been chosen to pay tribute to the Hertha side which won the German League title in 1930 and 1931. The shirts worn by those teams had an eagle emblem on them. The year 2006 is featured under the eagle on the new shirt badge, as a tribute to the 2006 World Cup; the final was played in the Olympic stadium in Berlin, home of Hertha."

Yea, they could be. Dejagah is a very overrated play IMO so losing him isn't that big of a deal. Basturk felt he had to move on so all the more power to him. He deserves a title and if he can get it at Stuttgart, then all the best. The Alex rumour I don't know about because I feel we should simply rely on our youth for right now, give them experience.

Also, where did you hear about the new investors?

I really love the idea of Favre as our coach because I think he brings the right attitude and approach that Hertha needs.

It was in the media about two month ago...

BERLIN (AFP) - German club Hertha Berlin are set for a multi-million-euro cash injection a report said Wednesday.

A Hertha board meeting on Monday revealed a group of Berlin investors are ready to pump 25 million euros into the club to allow the mid-table Bundesliga side to clear debts and splash out on the transfer market.

The Berliner Morgenpost reports the club want to halve their 46-million-euro debt by 2010 and the board of directors have approved the proposed investment which could also strengthen the squad.

That´s why I said it might make things even worse financially...

BUT...Is there one club in Germany that really have been underfunded and have the potential to benefit from outside investments it´s Hertha.
For years..decades even, everyone have been lamenting the way Berlin have been neglecting their major club.
It´s still a mystery that Germanys biggest city haven´t been able to provide Hertha with enough sponsor money to become a serious contender in the league..to me at least.

Favre in der Fußball-Hölle
B.Z.

Wenn der Fußball zur Hölle wird...

Von CARSTEN PRIEFER

Belgrad - Furchtbare Szenen in Serbiens 1. Liga.

Manager Dieter Hoeneß (54) gestern: "Ich will öffentlich dazu nichts sagen.

Viel Zeit bleibt also nicht!

Christian Müller to Cottbus...i always thought he was a decent talent but injury hit him hard, still he should've been given a real chance.

Whats with all the other young guns? A few years ago, Hertha's youth academy was called "the best" in Germany. Instead of buying loads of unknown player for some millions, the club should give youth a chance. It'll pay off sometime, is cheaper and this way all the effort/money the youth academy put into young player wouldnt be for nothing.

Hertha thrash Nistru Otaci 8-1

Hertha certainly had their scoring boots on on Thursday evening, as they beat FC Nistru Otaci 8-1, in a UEFA Cup first round first leg qualifier, in front of 12,373 at the Jahn Sport Park stadium in Berlin. It was the highest ever score in Hertha's UEFA Cup history.

The home side put the visitors under pressure from the off, allowing them hardly any space to operate in. That tactic forced the Moldovans into making mistakes. Hertha created their first good chance after 10 minutes, as Marko Pantelic tested keeper Pyliunga with a shot. The Serb striker threatened again three minutes later as he blasted over, following a mistake by Shola Adewum.

Hertha open the floodgates
For Pantelic it was a case of third time lucky, as he easily opened the scoring from close range on 15 minutes, after being played in by a header from his strike partner Lukasz Piszczek. The Bundesliga side maintained the pressure on the 2005 Moldova Cup winners and were soon to be rewarded. Superb approach work saw Pantelic set up Raffael for the second Berlin goal (23.) from 10 metres out.

Cruise control
Hertha turned on the style and on 34 minutes Pal Dardai blasted the ball onto a post, Piszczek slid the ball home into an empty goal. Then it was the turn of Pantelic again, who scored from close range after the keeper could only partially parry an effort by Gojko Kacar. 4-0 to Hertha! The capital city side were still hungry for goals and that hunger was fed three minutes before the break as Sofian Chahed fed Piszczek, who had no trouble in scoring his second, and Hertha's fifth goal. Hertha led 5-0 at halftime.

Piszczek brace
After the break, Nistru Otaci closed down Hertha better, which prevented them from scoring as freely as they had done during the opening half, but not for long! Before new signing Marc Stein made it 6-0, second half substitute Valeri Domovchiyski had missed two scoring opportunities from promising positions. On 71 minutes, 17 year old substitute Shervin Radjabali-Fardi had only been on the pitch for a few seconds as he watched Raffael score Hertha's 7th goal from point-blank range.

Hertha turned out to be polite hosts, allowing Andrei Tcaciuc to pull a goal back for the visitors (77.). Only three minutes later, Lukasz Piszczek scored his third goal to make the final score 8-1 to Hertha.

Hertha can now look to the second leg in the Moldovan capital Chisinau with peace of mind. That game will be played on July 31st 2008.

A draw against Liverpool is ok, innit?

As opposed to most others here I think Hertha might surprise us this season, Favre have had some time to get his act together and I wouldn´t be surprised if a Uefa spot is in reach.

'Tunisian Maradona' concludes Hertha move

Hertha BSC Berlin have signed Tunisian international Amine Chermiti, agreeing terms that will keep the forward in the German capital until 2012.

'Difficult negotiations'
The 20-year-old – touted as the Tunisian Diego Maradona – was initially to join the UEFA Cup contenders on a two-year loan from Etoile Sportive du Sahel with the option of a further two-year contract.

But Hertha moved quickly to make the move permanent following the payment of an undisclosed fee. "We are first and foremost pleased that some difficult negotiations over several months have come to a successful end," said Hertha general manager Dieter Hoeness. "As a footballer, it has always been clear that he fits our requirements and is the right player for us."

UEFA Cup progress
Chermiti has scored one goal in 12 appearances for Tunisia, and also struck six times in 26 league games for Etoile Sportive last season. "I know the coach and many of the players," he said of Hertha. "I will work hard and want to achieve a good finish with Hertha in the Bundesliga."

Having entered the UEFA Cup through the UEFA Fair Play competition, Hertha beat FC Nistru Otaci 8-1 on aggregate to earn a second qualifying round tie against NK IB Ljubljana, which kicks off in Slovenia next Thursday.
