5-1 to Argentina , Huth will get the run around by the likes of Saviola. Argentina will control the midfield from the first whistle. That Figueroa guy look impressive and he will get at least 2 past Timo boy.
The best thing for Germany is to look for a draw and pack the midfield with 5 players which is unlikely.

It will be nice to see Hildebrand finally get his chance to start. Actually I would rather like to see Hildebrand as German No.1 than the other two gk(Kahn,Lehmann). He still lack international match but i'm sure he will be German first choice goalkeeper in 2008.

i go along with timonator - the gauchos don't want to meet brazil in semifinal and so they wont give 100% for a win. and if germany then wins it i can see the media here go crazy

The final matchday in Group A of the FIFA Confederations Cup Germany 2005 boasts a veritable clash of the titans as hosts Germany take on Argentina. Having already qualified for the semi-finals, both teams will be determined to seize the top berth in the group in Nuremberg's sell-out Frankenstadion on Tuesday night, and earn the right to face the runners-up of Group B in the final four.
In keeping with previous games against Australia (4-3) and Tunisia (3-0), Bastian Schweinsteiger is also expected to start against two-time world champions Argentina. The 20-year-old Bayern Munich midfielder is without doubt one of the revelations of the tournament and FIFAworldcup.com caught up with the youngster before his country's final group game.
FIFAworldcup.com: Bastian Schweinsteiger, two games, two victories. Are you pleased with the tournament so far?
Bastian Schweinsteiger: We have done what was expected of us and fulfilled the objective we set for ourselves. That was to reach the semi-finals. So from that point of view we are satisfied.
Are you happy with how you played against Australia and Tunisia, or did you expect things to turn out differently?
I must say Tunisia surprised us. They were stronger than we expected.
You scored your first two goals for the national team shortly before the tournament and added a third against Tunisia. How do you assess your own performances?
They have been quite good, but the most important thing is that we won. I was happy to score, but I am happy above all to win regardless of whether I score.
How helpful is it when the Germany midfield consists of four Bayern players as it did against Tunisia?
Obviously it is a help because you are more familiar with the other players' runs. But all of the players are top quality so it is no problem to play with any of them.
You will be trying to win the group against Argentina on Tuesday. What do you expect from the game?
I think it will be an interesting game because Argentina have to play for the win while a draw would be enough for us. We do want to win the game though, so it should be exciting.
How do you rate Argentina? Have they shown any glimpses of their magic so far?
They still have a good team. They are technically strong and play flowing, attacking football. Riquelme is a very good player we have to look out for and prevent from spraying his passes around.
Will you be thinking about your potential semi-final opponents? If things go to plan, you will win the group and meet Brazil as runners-up in Group B.
No, we do not care who we play. We just try to win every game. We do not look at the other teams.
What do you think Germany can achieve in this tournament?
Anything is possible. The game against Argentina is not a decider. The semi-final is the first eliminator, so anything is possible.
Germany have not defeated any of the so-called big teams for a good five years. Now you have the opportunity to end that run against Argentina.
That is true. Although I think if we lose to Argentina and still win the tournament, that will be acceptable as well. But obviously it would be nice to win against such a team.
With one year to go until the FIFA World Cup™, expectations of the German national team are high. Do you feel under pressure from your own fans, or does that provide additional motivation?
It motivates and inspires us. When you run out into a stadium and everybody is waving black, red and gold flags, that gives us extra energy.
There is a lot of hype surrounding you and team-mate Lukas Podolski in particular at the moment. How do you feel about that and how do you cope with it?
I do not take too much notice of what the newspapers say. It makes me smile when I read those kind of things. Everything is exaggerated. The most important thing is that we are successful on the pitch. In any case, I do not even think Poldi or I are match-winning players.
Have you had any contact with your Argentinian team-mate Martin Demichelis?
No, not yet. But I must get around to it.
Finally, how do you see the game against Argentina going?
We will win 1-0.
Ahh.. come on Bast. I say 2-0!!!!!!LOL :drinkbeer

Ya I'm watching on a ticker at work too Dandy but I went home for lunch and watched the Asamoah goal and subbing. I think Klinsi just wants to give Hanke a longer run out since he scored in the last game and maybe save Asa's legs for the semi's. I think after the asamoah's goal klinsi just gave up to the attack by replace schweini with that monkey engelhard too earlier in the game, i know schweini wasnt playing good but at least he got the talent to make something special ....to have 3DM in a midfield is bad ....not technique at all, just playing too defensive , those last 30min reminded me voeller's era. :puke

We could have won this, if we would have been smarter at the end. That's bad, but I look at the positive things. There were a lot, though.
- Played without Ballack.
- On the average, our theam was 24 years old (can't remember the last day where we played with such a young team)
- The defence played very good too, over all...the whole team played good.
- They showed great teamspirit, fun and passion.
Remember in what state our defence was after the Australian match? Now compare it to the defence that played against Argentina. There's a big difference now. Huth played VERY strong today, same was with Merte and Hinkel (Though, Hitz was better too)
The fun is BACK and I really do enjoy that new, fresh german NT :cool

But here we are against Argentina B team, who dominate the proceeding as reflected by the stats, plus playing in front of the home crowd. Ballack is always a non factor for big matches as proven yesterday and many times at Bayern. The national team and Bayern can do without him period.
Asamoah is hardworking guy whose talent is above average in the german where most players can't pass or dribble properly and whose average workrate is very low like Frings. Anytime I will pick him ahead of the likes of Hanke or Bdaric .
All in all a good result for Germany whose in spite of themselves gave their best.

Jun 22 2005, 11:38 AM
Well, frankly speaking both teams were without few players from first team.
Veron, Crespo, Ayala aren´t in Germany (double measures from FIFA because they blackmailed Mexico if he comes at Con.cup without 3 players), and Saviola and few other didnt play yesterday, some of them came in 2 half. Germany was without Ballack, Podolski, Friedrich(2 yellow cards), injured Lahm and not properly recovered C. Metzelder.
In this kind of game Argentina showed more but Germany also did good.
I am impresed with Huth after his first game against Australia. If he cary on like this he can be class defender (but he is a still green).
Riquelme is one of the best midfilders in the world. Every touch of him is brilliant.
Think that Borowski deserved chanse in last night game!
One more thing. After second game almost every important German player had a yellow card - Ballack, Schweini, Friedrich (2)... many of this cards were stupidly made because there were no need for them. With injurys it is one more thing for considering in German team because on WC it could be easly plenty of situations like Schweini (one of best German players) who will not play next game because of 2 y cards.

Have you even bothered to watch him when he plays in the EPL? The only reason he looks average is because he's not playing in his normal position. He's a midfielder/winger..not a defender.

Should Borowski and Englehardt play more?
IMO they are very underrated. Englehardt is the most underrated player in Bundesliga. I am not saying he is an amazing or world0-class player but he is very very good indeed, especially if u really pay attention to Kaiserslauterns game.
And for Borowski, he is inconsistent, but some of his performance is brilliant especilly this season.

Engelhardt is talented and very underrated, but he came into the game yesterday and managed to do two things:
1.) Get nutmegged. (I.E. Ball between his legs)
2.) Get a yellow card.
I think if he actually managed to get a start and really get into the flow of the game, he could do well. He's a far better option than someone like Schneider.

Have you even bothered to watch him when he plays in the EPL? The only reason he looks average is because he's not playing in his normal position. He's a midfielder/winger..not a defender.
Yeah i bothered on watch that avg bastard.... he spent a lot of time in villa's bench , and he's not a winger he's a left DM , u r right he's not a defender but he's not a winger either ,he could be a winger in a amateur league where u dont need to be that skillful ....let me tell you a model-winger-player: thats Arjen robben , who has the skills to be a winger , in yesterday's game there was a moment of a counter attack where hitz had the ball to do something and he did look like a monkey... yeah right he's a great winger  , yeah he got a powerful shot that could be useful for a freekick but that doesnt meant he could be a good winger.
PS.Although i respect ur opinion i desagree totally with you.

How did Hinkel play? From the reports I read, seems he looked very good at rightback.
I agree with Bastian, Hitz is overated. He has a great shot and can cross very well but he doesnt have the pace to beat defenders, so its hard for him to get in good positions to cross. Also his passes on the ground tend to be crappy. I dont know why klinsmann insists on playing him at leftback when other guys like Hinkel or Frings would be better. Who cares if they arent naturally left footed. Lahm is a right footer, as are guys like Bierofka and they are fine.
Seems like Hitz is getting better at defense but his attack is weak. Frings or Hinkel would get up much further.

I agree with bastian. I saw Hitzlsperger in some games live (EPL) and I dont see any significant skills about him except having a powerful shot and being slow.

I agree.
He can't pass.
Well, if he does well at Stuttgart it only proves that the Bundesliga is really very much inferior to the PL.

Yea, and that's why all the scouts in Germany and even from other EPL teams were drooling over him and he was linked with big clubs like Munich. All because he couldn't pass. You're all judging him off some disappointing performances in games where he's play out-of-position. As for you lot actually watching him in the EPL, I have my doubts about your claims as well. Then again I'm talking to the most fickle bunch of bastards on here. I remember how you were all praising Farenhorst and when he had a slump, he turned into complete **** in your eyes. Now you wonder why footballers sometimes don't give a **** about the fans.
Once Mertesackers hits a rut, I can already see you people calling him **** and finding another young defender to praise and hail as the new saviour of the German NT backline.

Hitz isn't so bad how people make him here. I start to judge him, when he plays for Stuttgart, but now you can't say that he's a bad player just because he showed some bad performances in the NT.
At the moment he doesn't even play on his normal position (left offensive midfield) He trys his best, but have you never seen a player, who goes through a bad phase? That'a just normal for a young player.
Hmm, I'm wondering how Kuranyi would do as a defender?!? He'd have the same problems that Hitz has at the moment...he isn't a LB, so don't judge him on those few games, we'll see how he plays for Stuttgart...AND then you can judge him :D

Exactly. When he's given a proper run in the Stuttgart team next season, it would be more appropriate to judge him then. I think having Trapp to guide him will do wonders for him as well.

Guys I dont judge him on the performance in the NT right now. I always said that hes no great player like the media in germany said some time ago just because he was playing in the EPL.
I saw him often enough... U21, U20, EPL and I dont see him beeing as good as some people think he is. But I agree that the opinion here swifts pretty fast from time to time, judging about a few or a few good games of a player. Suddenly this player is either overrater or the next Pele...

im not judge him for his last performances either , i just think except for his powerful shot he has pretty avg skills, and i said he's not a winger like dandy said. hes DM ..... he's not skilled enough to dribble a defender and have a good position to make a good cross and thats what a good winger needs that's what i think of him... maybe he'd be good playing in the DM Role.

If you can convince any of them to play for Germany go ahead. They don't so quit complaining. Unless you see a better option for our next game, Hitz would be the most ideal solution.

Mine:

Friedrich------Mertesacker--Huth-----Hinkel
Deisler-----Ballack--------Ernst-------Schweini
----------------Podolski--Kuranyi

Schwein won't play, because he already got 2 yellow cards. But maybe Hitz could play on Schweinis postition. Not so sure about Hinkel as LB  but I'd give it a try...

IMO we dont have a good replacement for the pig in the left side....we also can play a 4-3-3 formation with poldi in the left wing ,and this system also could be a 4-5-1 in defence. just a suggestion

Sorry, Basti I'm laughing my a$$ off everytime you say pig :laugh :laugh that's so funny :D
Right, we don't have a good replacement for him, but I still think Klinsi should give Hitz chance. He could show how good he really is.
Or who else could play on pigs :laugh position?

like i said in a 4-3-3 system poldi could pla in the left side as winger... but please no hitz maybe he could make a good croos but he hasnt the skill to pass a defender at least a class one .... i'd prefer even schneider on the left side.

I placed Hinkel on LB only because he is fast player (I belive so).
Ballack13
Jun 24 2005, 12:59 AM
Hinkel is more than capable of playing leftback. The benefit of playing a left footed player at leftback is of course so he can cross better. But the thing is Hitz can never get far enough up field to using his left foot, so it really doesnt matter in this case lol.
Hinkel is much faster and can dribble. I dont want to see Schneider really, he is technically good but too slow these days. Maybe Englehardt or even Frings on the left side of midfield. Sucks the pig wont play. Damn that left side is a pain in the ass without Lahm and Pander!!!!
For all you Bierofka haters, he would be nice right now at leftmidfield. With defensive protection in Hinkel, he could use his speed and dribbling to run down that leftside. Something Hitz cannot do!

3-5-2 may be a verry good try since we dun have many options on both LD and LM positions.
Kahn- Friedrich, Mertesacker, Huth- Schneider, Deisler, ballack, Ernst, Hitz/Engelhardt-Kuranyi, Podolski
