Kaiser hails Sven's men
by Alex Livie - created on 20 Jun 2005
German legend Franz Beckenbauer believes England are the strongest nation in Europe.
Beckenbauer played a key part in ensuring Germany were granted the 2006 World Cup finals, but the former winner of the world's most famous football trophy believes The Three Lions could shatter the host nation's hopes of celebrating victory on home soil.
Der Kaiser says he is a huge fan of Sven Goran Eriksson's side and feels they are the most likely team to prevent South American powerhouses Argentina and Brazil from getting their hands on the trophy.
"England at the moment are maybe the strongest team in Europe," Beckenbauer told Sky Sports News. "I follow English football a lot and the English team looks wonderful at the moment."
Beckenbauer feels Eriksson has found the right blend of youth and experience and believes they approach the game in the right manner.
"The balance of the team, they have excellent young players who are gaining more experience, and the way they play is fantastic," added Beckenbauer.

Franz sais what the people from the country want to hear. Although I think England has a very strong squad, dont listen what Franz sais in foreign interviews!

totally agree to gerry. beckenbauer seems to talk the whole day and most of it make it into the tabloids - cuz 'franz' said it. but in the end its mostly its BS.
england have a strong squad no doubt. but they didn't reached something in the last years. it's just the same phenomenon as it is in spain or netherlands - strong squads but in tournaments they have bad luck or whatever.

He's always been an arrogant, over-talkative **** anyways. I respect him for his skills, but as a person he pisses me off.

England are way overated. They have some good players but their style of play is crap. Tactically they are really poor.

But Goran-Erikson is much smarter than most if not all german coach, if I am not mistaken, is also the one (not Keegan) who inflicted that that 1-5 shame to germans. Tactically this Swedish coach will have Voller and now Klinsi for snack anywhere anytime. Sad but true.
And most important, England like it or not has the players and that are heads and shoulders above their german counterpart. In fact, Hut and Hitz would never make it EPL but were considered to our NT. Therefore, Klinsi should not expect a lame England team come next year otherwise another 1-5 is in the offing. :USA_Blue

Head and shoulders above Germany? I disagree. Like I said, they have some good players but their style of play is nothing special. When they are put under pressure, they resort to their old tired style of just booting the ball forward. Especially when they take the lead in a match. They totally lose the ability to hold onto the ball. They also have a chronic problem at goalkeeper position.
With England's leftsided problems, Hitz would probably make it ino their NT if he was English. I am not a big fan of Huth but likewize, he would probably be starting on most English sides, Chelsea are the best team in England and one of the best in the world. He gets playing time but is against guys like Carvalho and Chelsea boy John Terry, so its no easy for him, not to mention he is 20 only.
