:clap I'm happy with him. He's better than Schachner, that's for sure. He won 19 titles with Juve, Milan, Bayern...he has experience, contacts to player in Italy AND he already knows our youth. He mentioned Gomez and Gentner in the press conference today. That made me happy, because they should get a chance too. Trapattoni is very into youth and supports young player. He was so funny at the press conference :laugh He started with "Ich wieder da...habe noch nicht fertig" :D

Boy, you should be here in Stuttgart now :woot it's party everywhere...the people are so happy that he signed :laugh The whole city is celebrating. I already drank a Prosecco and a Martini! That's so cool the whole city is italian right now :laugh

congrats, nice signin for stuttgart. but trappatoni is known as a coach who likes to play more defensive - didn't everyone had complained that sammer played to defensive last season ?

Playing defensively is ok..If you score as well

Yeah, we know about his defensive system, but I think there's a big difference between Sammer and Trapattoni. He HAS a system...with Sammer, I always had the feeling that some player didn't understand his system and what he wanted them to play.

Also, I saw no fire no heart and no passion when they played under Sammer. He couldn't motivate them, took them the fun and that was maybe a reason why it was so hard for them to play offensive.

I trust Trap, he knows that VfB fans want to see many goals. On the other hand you shouldn't forget that defence is important too. He'll find a good balance between those two. He can play defensive, as long as we score goals, I'm not worried at all :D

A nice interview (mentioned Gomez and Gentner/knows a lot about VfB youth)

Herr Trapattoni, herzlich willkommen in Stuttgart.

Giovanni Trapattoni: "Das stimmt.

I wonder, when did VfB and Trapps started talking about him taking over?

These things are often a bit underhanded...

Hmmm.. I don't believe in Trappa. He didn't achieve much with the Italians. He had a magnificent Italian team with Del Piero, Totti, Vierri, Inzaghi, Tommassi, Zambrotta, Nesta, Canavaro, Maldini and co.. yet he couldn't convert them to play dangerous attacking football. I wonder what can he do.
But anyway I really wish him good luck. A competitive Stuttgart will serve the German football, whcih si the most imp. thing! :)

My condolences Stuttgart. You bought a big name out of the stoneage.
He will help the young players to become better, but else I dont see much positive about signing him.

And I was pretty amused about the way Trappatoni presented himself. He is not a funny person just his one appearance that made him a comedian undesireably. Now people say: "look Trappatoni the funny guy". Laughable, and shows the power of the media to create a blister of bs.

I hope the best for Stuttgart, but if they will play Trappatoni-style I wont care if Stuttgart suffers for their ill-decision-making.

Red today a column by Paul Breitner, with whom I rarely agree, and he said it nicely at the begin of his column... "I thought Trappatoni would be a decoy for the press while the officials will negiate with a serious coach. But it wasnt just a decoy it was for real". Loosely translated. He also stated how that Sammer drove many fans out of the stadium because of the unattractive play and that Trappatoni will be worth.

Paul Breitner must have red a posting of mine some days before in this forum where I said exactly that. I should take Breitners place... :cool

Well, I don't like what Paul Breitner said. That guy is just criticizing and has now idea what he's talking about. Does he know VfB? Paule should shut up, because he has no idea. He's just mad that Stuttgart didn't choose his best friends Walter Schachner...that's all.

My opinion is that the fans won't care that he'll play defensive, as long as we shoot goals and as long as the player show passion, fun and heart. That's what the fans want to see.

I have the feeling some of you don't understand what I'm talking about: The fans were not mad that Sammer played so defensive, they were mad because the team played with no heart and passion. Sammer didn't reach them in the last 6 games and some other before. That was the problem, not his defensive system!

I can tell you, I live here and all the people were saying that the problem was not Sammers defensive system...it was how the player showed no heart and fighting spirit. They had no respect of Sammer, but they will have of Trap, because he knows how to treat young player. To say it in german: Die Spieler tanzten Sammer auf der Nase herum!

Another question: Did Stuttgart play offensive when Magath was our coach??? I don't think so. He was the one who build our defence. Why the hell did Timo get the record of 845(something) min. without a goal? Of course, because he played good, but also because our defence stood like a wall with Bordon, Meira, Lahm...

Magath mangaged to have a good balance between a strong defence and shooting goals. That's Traps system too. And I have no problem with it.

What other coach would you have signed? Hiddink, Daum didn't want to come and Schachner is coach in Austria, and Sollied signed a contract with Olympiacos. Trap was the best option. Or would you've signed Toppmüller, Neururer?!? He's the best that could have happen to us.

I'm glad that Trap is our coach and I'm sure he'll do well with Stuttgart.

Amen.

I think Schachner is a better choice than Trappa. And even better was Daum!!! I don't care if that guy was on cocaine or on crap.. he has some good coaching ideas. His Leverkusen days were awesome, and now he's doing fine with Fenerbehce.

Timonator
Jun 19 2005, 04:59 PM
Yeah, Daum would have been my first choice too, but he just signed a contract with Fenerbace. So he wasn't a candidate for that job.

Also I think you can't compare the Austrian with the German leauge.
Schachner would have been like a mirical bag, we wouldn't know how he'd do here, because he has never been a coach in the Bundesliga. We needed a coach with experience, a coach who won titles. And that's why I think Trap was the right choice.

Good point, maybe my view of the Stuttgart-fans is wrong. Maybe they didnt care about defensive games as long as Stuttgart did well.
I wish you the best but I fear for the worst.

btw. I like Trappatoni and I like to see him back in the BL

Maybe they didnt care about defensive games as long as Stuttgart did well.
I don't think many fans of any teams care about how they play as long as they win, like clyde in the scottish league their support has nearly trebled because they are challanging for the league instead of mid able, but they still play rubbish football :cool .
Hopefully trapatoni will do quite well, he just won the portruguese league :USA_Blue .
