Giovanni Trapattoni has been appointed as the new coach of Stuttgart.

Stuttgart have been on the lookout for a new coach since Matthias Sammer's departure earlier this month and they admitted Trapattoni would be a dream appointment.

Trapattoni has been out of work after deciding to quit Benfica at the end of the season having guided them to the Portuguese title.

The 66-year-old is highly-rated in Germany after a successful spell with Bayern Munich in the past.

Trapattoni is set to be unveiled on Friday and he is reported to have agreed a two-year deal at the Gottlieb-Daimler-Stadion.

This is one of the stuipidist appointments in the history of football, Stuttgart got where they did beacuse they play fast, attractive enterprising football with quality young players brought through the youth system.
