Schalke's new signing Kevin Kuranyi has launched a scathing attack on his former club VFB Stuttgart by claiming they did not try hard enough to keep him.
The Germany international used a buy-out clause in his contract to seal a €7 million transfer to the ArenaAufSchalke, where he has agreed a deal to keep him at the club until 2010, but he was quick to blame the Stuttgart board for his swift exit.
"I never had the feeling that they really wanted to do everything to keep me. There was plenty of talk about me, but none of it with me," said Kuranyi.
"A short phone call of three minutes would have been enough to tell me that the club counts on me, but there was no contact at all," explained Kuranyi, who joined the Swabians in 1997.
After Stuttgart missed out on qualification for the UEFA Champions League for the second successive year, Kuranyi is confident that his switch to Schalke offers him the chance to star at the highest level and challenge Bayern Munich's current dominance of the Bundesliga.
The 23-year-old striker added: "I really want to become German champion with Schalke and maybe win some other titles too."
Kuranyi is the third new face at Schalke following Freiburg's Zlatan Bajramovic and Werder Bremen's Fabian Ernst.
