Hamann in Hamburg talks
by Chris Ives -

Liverpool star Dietmar Hamann has revealed that he is in talks with Hamburg over a move to Die Bundesliga.

The German midfielder is out of contract at the end of season at Anfield, and has been constantly linked with a move away from Rafa Benitez's side.

After rejecting a link with Bolton earlier this week it now emerges that the 31-year-old has held preliminary talks with Hamburg about a return to his home country.

Hamann was recently recalled into Jurgen Klinsmann's German national side, and admitted that a move to Thomas Doll's side could well be beneficial for his World Cup chances next year.

"HSV would be the right club for me," Hamann told Bild.

"I can well imagine moving to the Bundesliga especially with the 2006 World Cup looming large.

"I have spoken to Hamburg but nothing is 100 percent certain as yet, I have to talk to Liverpool about it first."

The German media are reporting that Hamburg are ready to offer Hamann a two-year deal at the AOL Arena, after already showing their ambition by agreeing terms with Ajax star Rafael van der Vaart.
