Ailton to leave Schalke

Brazilian striker Ailton will leave Schalke at the end of his two-year contract and admits a return to Werder Bremen is something he would consider.

"I have a contract until 2006, after which Schalke and myself have an option, but I won't be taking my option," he told the Bild am Sonntag newspaper.

The 32-year-old was top scorer in the Bundesliga last season as he helped Bremen to the championship and now his goals could do the same for the Royal Blues, who are level at the top table with Bayern Munich.

When asked where he will play after Schalke, Ailton said: "Qatar, Japan or another club in the Bundesliga - anything is possible.

"To be champion with Schalke and then return to Bremen, I'd have nothing against that. Even at 33, I'd be one of the best strikers in the league."

When he leaves I hope it is to one of those big money little talent clubs.

He was happy is Bremen I think then the cash of Schalke made him move to a clib he disliked.

Ailton is such an idiot.
He didn't start vs. Hannover, but Hanke did and up to now he has scored two goals.

Schalke captain Frank Rost has slammed Brazilian team-mate Ailton for claiming he would leave the Gelsenkirchen club in 2006.

Ailton recently told the German press that he is not intending to extend his current contract at Schalke, but would like to continue his career in Qatar, Japan, or even at his former club Werder Bremen.

Goalkeeper Rost was angered by these comments, suggesting it was time for Ailton to produce on the pitch.

"The whole team is giving its all for him and it's time he did something for us," fumed Rost.

"He hasn't done himself any favours at all with this story and we will be looking at him more critically in the future."

Schalke general manager Rudi Assauer also expressed his displeasure at Ailton's comments.

"You have to take things 'Toni' says with a pinch of salt, but if he wants to leave, then fine he should go," said Assauer.

Assauer said the same today and was pretty pissed.
