Bayer Leverkusen signed Landon Donovan after the U17 World Cup three years ago were Donovan won the Golden Ball as the best player and the USA qualified for the tournament in 3rd place.
Bayer Leverkusen never gave the kid a chance always keep him playing in the reserve teams, so he ask for a loan to the Mls. Were is was responsible for San Jose Earthquakes on winning the MLS championship.
Also a started for the USA is was one of the most valuable players in the USA winning the Goldcup. Know they want him back but he doesn't want any part of Leverkusen.

Agree.
I see Landon Donovan playing for a English team in the future, is going to be better then Claudio Reyna. Is going to be miss in San Jose.
Maybe they will work a deal by playing him in the MLS until September, and then joing Leverkusken for the 2002/03. I think is only got one more season left on his contract.

It's quite natural to want him back what with a championship, caps and what-not under his belt now. I guess you could argue that MLS would cut the agreement ONLY because Bayer would have to pay them a buck load of money. I guess it's a lost cause either way. :cry

Donovan contract with Bayer Leverkusen most become to end soon.
And then its up to Donovan who he signs with. There is probably one more year left with Leverkusen.

i have followed this dilemma closely.. as much as donovan may not want to go back to bayer, it looks like he must. His contract expires at the end of this years bundesliga season, and bayer may cut san jose a deal to get him in october. As to my opinion he should go to bayer for the experience anyway, compared to the MLS, the bundesliga is a huge step up in player quality... If landon would desire going to an EPL team the experience in germany might just be what he needs, unless he is scared of being a flop and having no Prem. teams make an offer for him...
he should go and fulfill the contract he signed and get the experience.. and try to prove himself.. i know he dont want to go, but he did sign an agreement binding by law..

I would like to have Donovan play along side of Nuno Gomes, Petit, Simao, Feher, Zahovic, with my Benfica we would make room for him.
There is always room for one good player.
I believe he might go back after the season.

benfica eh?
doubt they would get a player from the USA, but stranger things have happened.. he should go back to bayer to prove himself as a world class player.. then he'll have his pick of teams knocking at his agents door.............

I still say he would go to a Germany team, at the end of the season, and later to a Premier team just like Claudio Reyna.
