Bielefeld expect star exit
by Chris Ives - created on 17 Feb 2005

Arminia Bielefeld's sporting director Thomas Von Heesen has admitted the club are unlikely to keep Germany international Patrick Owomoyela beyond this season.

The 25-year-old midfielder, who was forced his way into Jurgen Klinsmann's national squad this season, is believed to be a target for championship-chasing Schalke despite being contracted at the Schuco Arena until June 2006.

"We can assume that he will be leaving us in the summer," said Von Heesen.
Although Owomoyela is likely to command a hefty transfer fee, Von Heesen insists that he is not looking to offload the Bundesliga star.

"We are not going to be going around offering him to people, but we know that we can't compete with offers from other clubs," he added.
"Owomoyela wants to play in Europe and continue developing as a player."
