Does anyone know anything about this, apparently you can have music on a DVD disk at much higher quality than on a normal CD but obviously the filesize increases as much so as opposed to a 730 meg CD that stores 74 mins of audio readable in a cd player, you can get a 4.7 Gb DVD that holds 74 minutes aswell with much higher quality

Technical Info
------------------CD Audio ------------DVD Audio
Sampling Rate -44.1 kHz ------------- 192 kHz
Samples per second 44,100 ---------- 192,000
Sampling Accuracy 16-bit ------------- 24-bit
Number of Possible Output Levels 65,536 16,777,216

Has anyone else heard more info ?

But the quality increase won't even be noticable would it? I've had no problems with burning music to normal CDRs and the quality is excellent. If you want better quality, just convert the music files to a higher rate. ie. 128kb to 192 or 320 or whatever the highest is.

i actually just wanted to test it out, to see how much of a difference there was, i thought with something that takes nearly 6 times as much space, there must be a pretty high increase in quality

Yeah good point. Worth a shot. Only got a few blank dvds to lose. :laugh Let us know on how your experiment goes. :p

I'm ripping a CD to .wav format at 96,000 sample rate, still not as good as the 192000 on DVD's and i've played my file compared to a standard 192kbps version and sound quality is quite a lot better even though file size is 20 times as much, but i'm using an mp3 encoding algorithm that converts wav's to mp3s with no loss in sound quality so finished files are about 25mb

25mb as opposed to roughly 4mb. That's about 6 times the size of a standard mp3. CDRs can hold either 74min (650mb) or 80min (700mb) of music but what about DVDs. How much can DVDs hold in terms of length (not filesize)? Should roughly be about 560mins for a 4.7gb dvd?

yes but if u use the encoding settings as above 192 khz sample rate etc, it will store 74 mins exactly, just as a normal CD would
