Hiya im working for a website and one section is a review of all the best teams in their league. I chose to do about you guys and composed a page on you under different headings can you please have a read and then reply with things to add / take out thats wrong or you disagree with! Your the experts!
Manchester City:
Manchester City have lived in Man Yoo’s shadow for too long, however now they have a side capable of matching them blow for blow. Weak in some areas they are not quite the finished article by a long chalk however if they manage to keep Keegan in 3 or 4 years I feel Manchester City will be a Champions League outfit. Not a hugely successful club however they have managed the FA Cup on four occasions, twice league cup winners and European Cup Winners Cup winners in 1970. Their last major trophy, aside the Division 1 championship they won last season, dates back to 1976 when they won the league cup.
Facilities:
Man City’s Maine Road stadium is simply not big enough for such a huge fan base, situated in the luxurious surroundings of Moss Side, just over 34,000 seats is the reason why they are moving to their new 48,000 all seater Stadium “Eastlands” next season. The Stadium is currently called “The City of Manchester Stadium” purposely built for the Commonwealth Games. After the games have ended work will be ongoing to expand the capacity of the ground to it’s intended 48,000. This will require the building workers to dig down to ensure the pitch is as close to the fans as possible at the moment there is a sports field and a running track inside the stadium which can hold 38,000 people. Manchester City have a very good training ground at Carrington Moss where seven solid based pitches have been converted to fibre-sand.
Finances:
Manchester City are a club financially secure. After a summer of hard spending City are not in the red and money is available when necessary. It is believed around £11 million pounds would be given to Kevin Keegan to buy 2 new players however Keegan has stated the summer spending has finished. When the transfer window opens in December don’t be surprised if Kevin has signed a new central defender.
Board Expectations:
The Board at City will expect a minimum of Premiership survival, however with the money, which has been given to Keegan to bolster his squad, they are seriously expected for a Premiership assault and a top 10 finish. Relegation from the Premier League would probably see Keegan’s dismissal.
The Key Players:
Nicholas Anelka – City’s record signing, wealth of experience already at Arsenal, Real Madrid, PSG and a loan deal last season with Liverpool.
Marc-Vivien Foe – Signed on Loan from French side Metz – Foe’s strength and work rate is exceptional however he does suffer from Malaria, which could rule him out of crucial games at unexpected times.
Shaun Wright Phillips – An exciting young prospect, one of many versatile players who can play nearly anywhere on the park, he is played in a more defensive role for City nowadays opposed to his old attacking role.
Best of the Rest:
Kevin Horlock – Most underrated player at the club, however he’s loved by the fans and got lots of goals from midfield last season. May struggle with tempo of the Premiership and is not seen as a first team regular – may be rotated.
Ali Bernabia – Player of fantastic skill, pace and gets goals. However he is the wrong side of 30 and is 2 years or so away from retirement, but a player at his peak.
Paulo Wanchope – Everyone knows the enigma and unpredictability of Paulo. Blighted by niggly injuries Paulo will miss most of next season as he goes under the surgeons knife.
Areas that need Strengthening:
Manchester City have a poor defence, Sylvain Distin at left/center back looks about their best player. Steve Howey, Wiekins, Dunne, Granville and Charvet would find it hard to handle to tempo of the Premier League and one or two of them may be sold to recoup some money after a big summer spending spree.
Solid Team Areas:
Manchester City’s attack is enviable! 6 strikers of different stature and physique allows Kevin Keegan to rotate his front line and partner 2 or 3 strikers together depending on the opposing team – If Keegan fails to use his strikers including: Vuoso, Goater, Anelka, Macken, Huckerby and Wanchope, effectively his tactical awareness and rotation skills would be questioned and his stint as manager could come to an end.
Respectable League Position:
Manchester City fans will tell you they have a side capable of achieving a UEFA cup spot however realistically a top 10 finish and maybe a place in the Intertoto Cup would satisfy the blue half of Manchester.
Success Rating:
(3/5)
I thought this review was quite good for a fan from another club, he seems well up on our club. :)
