Bad news for Dandy

Ambitious Bundesliga side Hertha Berlin are reportedly considering making a move for Celtic striker John Hartson during the January transfer window.

Hertha are among the leading scorers in Die Bundesliga but are keen to bolster their options with a view to challenging for honours.

Hartson's deal at Parkhead expires in the summer, but the Welshman is talking about a new deal while Blackburn, Fulham and PSG are also believed to be interested.

Hertha boss Falko Gotz recently learned he has money to strengthen his squad and the former 1860 Munich coach is now expected to strengthen his attacking options.

A handful of strikers - including Lyon's unsettled Giovane Elber and Dinamo Zagreb's Eduardo Da Silva - have been linked with the Old Lady, but German football magazine Kicker has suggested that Hartson and Benfica's Tomislav Sokota are the leading candidates.

Hartson, formerly of Coventry, West Ham and Arsenal, has been in blistering form this term netting 15 times in the SPL.

Hartson is actually a good player, even though most people give him ****. He's big and physical, and can find the net. He has 16 goals this season, 14 in the SPL and is the SPL's leading goalscorer.

If Hertha is looking for a big physical striker, he could be the answer, although we will most likely resign him.

Hertha Berlin are confident they can land big Celtic centre-forward John Hartson on a pre-contract next month.

Hertha's general director Dieter Hoeness told the Daily Record: "It is our policy never to discuss individual players but there is no doubt that we are interested in getting a new forward in for the summer.

"Our scouts are watching a number of possible signings and it is correct that John Hartson is a player we are looking at.

"We are now closing the fishing net in more and more.

"We started with a big list of targets and there are fewer and fewer names on it. But Hartson is still there.

"We have had talks with his agent in the last week but I can't say any more than that. I don't comment on intermediate results. Let's just say that Hartson is a player we are following closely." Hertha are ready to offer Hartson a three-year contract worth £50,000-a-week.

I don't think he'll leave celtic for germany unless celtic offer him bugger all wages.

With the Tic board saying MON will get nothing to spend and that players will probally need to tke a pay cut I think hartson will leave...I was pissin' myself listin' to the tic fans o nthe phone in tonight crying about Celtic feckin' about with this contract and losing it and it was all MON must go blah blah blah.....
