Listening to it now, commentators (Alan Green & Jimmy Armfield) concentrating on talking about their Christmas shopping more than the game, it must be fun to watch.

Keane edge punctures Rovers
skysports.com

Robbie Keane's predatory strike was enough to hand Tottenham Hotspur a 1-0 victory over fellow strugglers Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park.

Saturday's late game saw a fine piece of work by midfielder Michael Brown finally carve open the Blackburn defence and enable Keane to lash home to seal a crucial victory.

The loss ended a five-game unbeaten streak for Rovers, who simply could not break down Spurs' gritty defence, as they went in search of an equaliser.

Tottenham looked the brighter side through a first half that seemed strangely pedestrian, considering both sides' desire for a victory that would push them clear of the relegation dog-fight.

Jermain Defoe had an early effort easily taken by Brad Friedel, whilst partner Robbie Keane found, first Andy Todd, and then Craig Short on hand to stop nimble runs.

Keane nearly got lucky when a shot on the turn took a deflection that had Friedel scrambling before dropping the wrong side of the post for Spurs.

Andy Todd saw a volley drift narrowly wide, soon after a Tugay cross had been critically cut out by Pedro Mendes, with Brett Emerton lurking.

Defoe then had the best opportunity of the half when he received an incisive pass from Keane that cut through the Rovers offside trap and turned in a low shot.

Friedel did well to stick out his leg and block the effort, but his quality was rewarded with a stroke of luck when the ball looped over him, but landed on the roof of the net.

The second half started with a fine Blackburn move that saw Dickov escape down the left and pick out strike partner Gallagher.

The young striker turned well and his shot looked destined to creep inside the post, only for England international Paul Robinson to produce a fine save to claw the ball away.

But it was the visitors who finally broke the deadlock - ten minutes after the break - and largely thanks to the tencity of Michael Brown.

Brown rode a half-hearted challenge by the already-booked Tugay drifted past several flat-footed Rovers defenders until he had found some space on the left hand edge of the box and then picked out a perfect low pass for Keane to thunder home first time.

Jay Bothroyd had a header narrowly wide, but at the other end, Andy Todd had to be aware to stop Defoe going through from a hopeful ball over the top.

The arrival of David Thompson, not for the first time this season, galvanised Rovers and it took a wonderful piece of defending from Nourredine Naybet to clear after Todd's header back across the ball looked destined to be tapped in from close range.

Thompson had a couple of powerful shots from outside the box that rose too sharply to trouble Robinson, but was then booked for handballing whilst trying desperately to meet an Emerton cross.

Spurs took off Keane and threw on Anthony Gardner, with manager Martin Jol making no effort to disguise his game plan in the closing stages.

But even with most of the possession, Rovers could not find the moment of quality that earned them a share of the points, and it was Spurs that picked up three points that moves them up to 12th place in the congested bottom half of the Premiership table.

Looks like Blackburn had a lot of chances (shots). Suprised Dickov didnt save them like he usually does.

Blackburn Rovers good today as well both teams did, this game should have been a tie, but Blackburn Rovers couldn't finish their changes and great saves by spurs goaltender in the start of the 2nd half.

Apparently we played well but after the goal resorted to constantly clearing, hopefully we'll press for a second in future...
