Arminia Bielefeld right back Patrick Owomoyela is stunned that Germany boss Jurgen Klinsmann has picked him for the nation's tour of Asia in December.

Owomoyela only signed his first professional contract in 2003 when joining then-second division outfit Bielefeld.

"It's the icing on the cake. The past one-and-a-half years are like a dream, but this tops it all," declared the 25-year-old.

The attacking defender was a key figure as Arminia sealed promotion to the Bundesliga, and his side are currently in seventh place with 15 games played.

Owomoyela is the son of a German mother and a Nigerian father, but the player made it clear that he favoured Germany ahead of the Super Eagles.

"I have spent 25 years in Germany while I have never been in Nigeria before, so I did not need to hesitate when Klinsmann's offer arrived," added Owomoyela.

Hmmm, I gotta say that picking him ahead of Borowski, Baumann, Madlung, M.Friedrich, Preuß and Balitsch is bit strange.

he has been playing very well .. so i think he deserves to be in the team , besides goerlitz is injured , volz in bad form , and hinkel played in the uefa cup ... so i agree with klinsi for calling him up...

If you look at german national side, there hasnt been alot of foreign input, only klose, uwe is at least half german, but you can knowdese it before

If you are born in Germany, lived all your life in Germany and have a german mother than I think you should be counted as a full german no matter were your father is from. Of course he is german just like Mehmet Scholl who is half turkish.

If Owemoyela comes next after 1-Hinkel, 2-Friedrich, 3-Goerlitz, 4-Pander, 5-Volz.. then OK I agree. But are we sure there ain't any better right backs?!
