Following on from the impressive performances of the younger brigades of our centerbacks in the friendly I'd like to ask u guys as who do u think is the best german CB. Here are the nominees:

Christoph Metzelder

Has Been out of the game for almost 2 years. However, he's thought b4 as one of the best CB in europe. very speedy, dominant in the air and a good tackler. He's also very tall and physically imposing. He's also a strong leader both on and off the pitch.

Jens Nowotny

Was once touted as the best german player. He was once one of the best defender in Europe. Although not particularly fast, he;s very experiance and has a strong positional sense. Lots of injury have slowed him down however.

Christian Worns

He's a strong marker and is very experienced. He's always consistently been one of the best defender in Bundesliga for a very long time.

Arne Friedrich

Could also play as a right back. he's fast and good technicly. Has shown that he's capable in going forward and score a few.

Per Mertesacker

A giant defender that emerged as an exciting talent late this year. I havent seen him play personally, but he's certainly got a big wrap around him

Robert Huth

Another young tall timber who's playing impressively for NT. However, couldnt get a place in Chelski however, that might prove his undoing. Other than that, he's a confident young man and a good aggressive player who seems to have all the right stuff

Of the ones I've seen, Nowotny is the best and Friedrich 2nd best, I have not seen mertesacker at all, and Woerns is a total mental case.

I hope Metzelder returns. I'd put them in this order:
1- Nowotny (but he's aging and very slow.. damn it! It became clear in EURO2004 during the Latvia match and when Baros cracked our defences)
2- Metzelder (Fast, good positioning, good aerial display. But he's injured now for ages and he won't get his touch in time. They say he'll be back after the winter break.)
3- A. Friedrich (He got experience during the EURO2004 qualification matches).
4- Woerns (If Woerns plays in 2006 then I can grant U an empty hand in that tournament).
5- Per Mertesacker (I see him in the bundesliga and he's not bad. Ofcourse he lacks the international experience).
6- Huth (Damn it. This is one player that I'm not fond of. He's violent and he picks alot of cards. He's slow and can be easily out paced or out dribbled but shorter smart center forwards. Not to mention that he's not a regular in Chelsea.. so lets' be realistic and not put high hopes on him for 2006 at least).

id Love The 'Berlin Wall' Huth. sure he is slow and picks alot of cards but look at nowotny. slow but clever. My order would be Christoph Metzelder, Friedrich, Huth, Per Mertsacker, and nowotny and worns should not be included in the squad.

This is a no brainer for me. When Metzelder is fit, he is the best without a doubt. He is tall, fast, strong, excellent in the air, smart. One of the best in the world.

I havent really seen Mertesacker play much but he seems promising.

Worns and Nowotny are way too damn slow, especially for International play where they well get taking advantage of.

I think Mertesacker is a very promising defender. He just need some experience with the NT.Huth? Ya.. he is good defender but he lack of games at Chelsea...
A.Friedrich- Eventhough he is good as centreback but he play well for Germany at Euro2004 which he play as a rightback
Worns, Nowotny-old and slow...Klinsmann should get rid of these two player..
Metzelder-Simply amazing at WC2002 but now he's injured...not sure whether he can be on his best form at 2006

p/s: By the way ..I really love to see the German NT playing with SWEEPER...
