Also, Marcelinho scored once again along with Kovac. But you know, Rafael is just an average striker and will be nothing. Eh, Gerry? Heh. God, Hertha is such crap.
Anyways, report:
Hertha ends Schalke "Curse"!
It took Hertha almost 35 years to win away at Schalke, but the 3-1 win in front of a capacity crowd in the Schalke Arena on Saturday afternoon, was oh so sweet. Marcelinho put Hertha ahead. Further goals by Nando Rafael and Niko Kovac followed. Gerald Asamoah scored for the home side in what was the first defeat for Schalke in 11 matches.
Good start
The huge crowd in Gelsenkirchen saw Hertha start the livelier of the two sides, no wonder after the verbal dressing down given to them by the Hertha coach Falko Götz on Thursday…The visiting side had a lively first ten minutes before Schalke placed second in the table before the match, began to get on top. The home side had three good chances by Ebbe Sand (22.), Ailton (29.) and Gerald Asamoah (36.), all of which were missed.
Surprise lead
Three minutes before the half time break, Hertha took the lead against the run of play. Malik Fathi put a free kick from the left into the Schalke box, Nando Rafael back headed the ball to Marcelinho who scored from close range to give Hertha what was to be honest, an unlikely lead. The goal should have in truth been disallowed, because as Nando headed on to Marcelinho, the Brazilian was in an offside position. The match referee Fandel gave the goal, and Hertha took a slender lead with them into the half time break.
Hertha under the cosh
Five minutes after the break Schalke drew level, sadly…with the help of the Hertha keeper Christian Fiedler, who let a a cross slip through his fingers to Asamoah, who scored from close range. That equaliser signalled a Schalke onslaught. The home side pinned Hertha back in its own half and pushed for a second goal. A second goal did come…but it was Hertha who scored it, or rather Nando Rafael who scored his second of the season as the Schalke keeper Rost failed to hold onto a fine shot by substitute Zecke on 71 minutes. The young striker had no trouble pushing the ball home from inside the six yard box.
Kovac grabs killer goal
Hertha put the game beyond Schalke seven minutes before the end of the match. Marcelinho curled in a corner from the left where Niko Kovac was waiting to gleefully nod hiome Hertha’s third of the match. On the balance of play, Schalke had more possession, but it was Hertha who made the most of the few chances they created. So the Schalke “curse” is finally broken and Hertha move up to 10th place in the Bundesliga table.
Well done lads!
