Juve ponder Campbell bid

Reports in Italy that Juventus are interested in Arsenal stopper Sol Campbell are gathering pace.

The Italian giants are expected to sign a new central defender and the England international is an alleged target.

Juventus were impressed with Campbell’s performances at Euro 2004 and are lining up a player plus cash bid.

Players that could possibly be offered to the Premiership champions include Igor Tudor and Stephan Appiah.

The Croatian, who can play in defence or as a midfielder, is expected to quit the Serie A club this summer.

While Appiah, who only joined from Brescia a year ago, doesn’t seem to be a key figure in Fabio Capello’s plans.

Other centre backs who have been associated with the Old Lady are Fabio Cannavaro of Inter, Parma youngster Daniele Bonera and Czech international Tomas Ujfalusi of Hamburg.

Meanwhile, Juventus are ready to offer £7m plus Enzo Maresca to Roma in a bid to finally sign Emerson.

The Giallorossi had previously demanded that Juve pay either £13m or £8.5m plus Manuele Blasi.

The latter is considered as untouchable by Capello, but Maresca is available as he only has one year left on his Turin contract.

Campbell wouldn't be too bad as long as he doesn't cost too much, I still say it would be a shame to see Maresca go, is there a problem with his contract, or does Capello just not rate him?
I can't believe Capello signed up for Juve without knowing what targets Juve were after, but with the Euro qualifiers starting mid August there doesn't seem much except rumour and conjecture.

Sol didn´t leave to Barca (when they offered more cash than Arsenal), because he wanted to stay in London and in UK. Why would he leave now?

Besides, Arsenal will not let Sol go cause he´s irreplaceable.

And anyway why would Juve want to sign a 29-year-old defender when they clearly need to re-juvenate their back line?

Doubt that Juve will get him if they wont lose Thuram instead and that would not happen.

i highly doubt that sol will leave arse for juve. they'll probably get ujfalusi and bonera. if i were moggi, i wouldn't give up maresca because he is a quality player.

To me, at the moment, Juve has good 4 central defenders already :Thuram, Montero, Legrottalie and Zebina.
