Former Rangers and Newcastle star Paul Gascoigne admits he is desperate for the opportunity to play for both clubs again.

Gazza has already been told he can play for 15 minutes of Newcastle's game against the Ibrox side when the two clubs meet in the Newcastle Gateshead Cup at St James' Park on July 31.

The tournament also features Feyenoord and Sporting Lisbon and the former Ibrox favourite would love the chance to pull on the light blue jersey of Rangers one last time.

He said: "I am absolutely thrilled at being asked to play for Newcastle again. But I accept that this competition is part of serious pre-season preparations, not only for Newcastle, but also for Rangers, Feyenoord and Sporting Lisbon and I don't want to get in the way.

"Ideally, I would love to play 15 minutes for Newcastle against Rangers and then 15 minutes for Alex McLeish against either Sporting Lisbon or Feyenoord."

i wouldn't play him at all.we need players fit for champions league qualifiers, new players trying to settle in.nothing personal against gazza, but this shouldn't even be considered.

He would only be playing for 15 minutes, not the full game..

i know how long he'd play for.my point is players coming back after the summer might need a full 90mins under their belt.

yeah i understand what your saying, but we are playing like 3/4 friendlies, surely 15 mins out of one of them isn't much to ask

As much as I love Gazza and thought he was brilliant for us, its really time he hung up his boots now and moved on. After seeing the doc about him in China recently, it showed how sad his life has become and desperate he is, but he's only kidding himself in thinking he can still play at any reasonable level.

If Newcastle can spare 15 mins we can do that. We've got about six friendly matches and it won't matter if one players misses out on 15 minutes. It will be great to see Gazza in the Blue shirt once more and from his tv interview yesterday he's been of alcohol for a year and has got his act 2gether so he's probally a better player than most of the crap we've got rid of.
